I cancelled my membership when I found out that I would be moving to a California.  I walked into the gym and cancelled directly at the front desk - (I acutally had my new offer letter for my job in Ca. to prove that I was actually moving).  The lady at the desk said o.k. and everything is fine.

I hadn't thought about the Caltas since then, until I got my Credit report and found that they had put me in collections to the tune of over $650.00!!!  I immediately called them and they told me I have to call NAC - thier billing company.  When I got a hold of NAC they informed me that they only provide billing and do not contact collections agencies and that I needed to call Caltas directly.  I called back to Caltas and they told me that they don't know anything about how/why I was put into collections and that I should call the collection agency directly.  So I then called the collection agency that appeared on my report and the number was disconnected.  I called back to Caltas and they said that they don't put people into collections (although they gave me the name and number of the collection agency that they 'don't use').

Long story short, I now have to file directly with the credit reporting agency and they do an investigation (estimated time 30 days) and then depending on what they find it will be another 60 days for a resolution.  In the meantime, this is hurting my credit rating and makes a difference in a car loan I'm trying to get (my car of 12 years has finally just died and can't be repaired).

One other thing, I moved and cancelled my membership all the way back in 2009 and it never showed up on my report until 2012.
