In 1997 we bought a car from carmax, and the same as with others they were not honest. First they sold us a lemon, it was in the shop so much the district mgr STEVE started bringing the car to me. What they say when you buy a car is if something is not working properly bring it back within 2 weeks and they will fix it.

They never fixed it. They even sent it to the garland shop to see if they could figure out the problem... NEVER DID... in the meantime we are paying for a car that is in the shop more then on the road... and it was only 1 year old! finally we sent the car back after one year! STILL WAS NOT FIXED! Then we find out the (Bank)that finaced the car (FNAC) THEY ARE ACTUALLY CARMAX!

Then about a year and half ago they filled a lawsuit downtown at TARRANT COUNTY COURT... They want to sue us for what they say they didn't get at the sale of the car, so I got all my paperwork together that I saved from the car going back and forth, all the names of managers we involved etc anyway THIS IS VERY INTRESTING. I took the paper work to the court house, I paid money so we could have a Jury Trial, I was gonna prove, one, they sold us a lemon, two, they could not fix it! CARMAX DROPPED THE LAWSUIT... WE NEVER WENT TO COURT! THEY ARE A VERY SHADY COMPANY!

When I purchased my car it didn't have the CarMax logo on the back which now I'm extremely proud of and one of the guys in their service department told me that it meant they never looked at my car, drove it off the truck or else it was a trade in but never checked out.

If you buy a car from Carmax make sure you read ALL paper work and make sure you have someone that is not paying for the car look it over (mechanic). If you start to notice problems and it is past your 5 day return policy take pictures and keep notes of everyone you talk to and what they say send emails to their corporate email adress that way you can print out the things you write to them. Keep records records records. Im not saying Carmax doesnt have good vehicles but they stated to me several times that they could not do all of their 125 point inspection (operations manager and buyer) They just dont have time although their brochure claims to spend an average of 12 hours reconditioning vehicles the reason they are reconditioned is either they were bought from a consumer who did not take care of the car or it is an auction car. Carmax may have some good vehicles just make sure you get a second opinion from a car mechanic this is your right to have this done on or off the lot.

Employees of CarMax must be replying on this site.

I've noticed in other complaints, just like this one there's always someone talking about how fair CarMax is. Yelp, they've got their employees not only lying for them but now replying to complaints on the internet for them. Interesting....what cowards.

Carmax does provide you with an opportunity to return the vehicle w/in 5 days

Sir you have certainly not provided enough information for others to even coherently make rebuttal. I will attempt, however, to quickly point out that all dealers are the same esp. when buying used vehicles. The true differance is Carmax does provide you with an opportunity to return the vehicle w/in 5 days. That being said...the downfall is Carmax is growing rapidly (greater in some areas) which means for the consumer they will ultimately and with certainty become to large for the average joe to leverage a successful battle with. The true measure of a good business is not how much money it takes out of the economy but how much it puts in. Ask the general manager, Ron Bevers how much they contributed to schools last year, any charity in any state they reside, other than virginia. I bet the response requires another day or two to confirm with corporate...esp on how to answer.

You are Not Telling the Whole Story

My father in law had issues with his Carmax car and they actually did the right thing and negotiated with him fairly when he worked with the customer relations folks.

You must have been extremely rude and demanding things beyond reasonableness, or you didn't know that they had a customer relations department. C'mon...you are NOT telling the whole story. In my opinion, you are just trying to slander a company that, in my experience, treats its customers well.

First off, Carmax provides a 30 day warranty not a 2 week warranty.

Second, I assume that when you say you "sent the car back" you participated in a voluntary repossession?

Third, you give no details of the exact problem or what type of vehicle it was. Was it a newer car that was still covered under factory warranty?
