We had went to Carmax over the other car dealers based on their word and commercials bragging about the "carmax inspection". You wouldn't buy a car with any problems, they guaranteed it to be in perfect condition (no floods, wrecks, etc)

We have only had the car a lil over a week and noticed the xm on the radio wasnt working. We ASSUMED maybe it was the weather. We had a large amount of rain the past few days. Just "maybe" the clouds were to thick for it to work. We were clueless, we have never had a car with xm before..

The second day of the rain we noticed things in the trunk were damp, but it wasnt till we picked up some pictures we had JUST had done and they were messed up that there was a major problem going on in the trunk. We lifted up the mat where the tires would go and noticed everything was soaked. To the side above where the tires were was sitting in a foot of water. Sadly inside that foot of water was the xm receiver (which sure explained why the radio was NOW saying no receiver found...), tail light wires, etc.

This is a freaking 2008 car. It was barely used 9 months to begin with. So we are unsure how long the beginning water was there or if the trunk area flooded that bad in one day. It obviously has been there or already started before we got the car because of the color of everything in the trunk area.

This was my first new car ever and I cant even describe how infuriated I am. If I wanted to get screwed this bad with a car I could have just trusted one of the ppl off craigs list or a buy here pay here lot.. Pretty much everything electronically is sitting under water in the back of the car, all the carpets are soaked. I image that nice new car smell will soon be followed by mildew...

So would I refer any one to car max. NO, they are just as bad as any other car lot. In less then one week I went from extremely happy to completely crushed.

So what has Carmax said they would do about it if anything? Have you approached them about warranty? Your out of luck on the 5 day buyback but they have another standard warranty (90 days I think). Since this is a 2008 it should still be covered under manufacturers warranty. I would have the dealer verify if this is due to flood or other factors namely leaks from all the rain. One key to check if this was a flood car is pull out all the seatbelts and smell them and check for wetness. If someone reconditioned a "flood vehicle" they rarely go to extremes to replace that.

So just to be clear you didnt check the trunk out prior to purchase? They should have walked the checklist through to show u there was a spare tire and you all activated the XM radio to get the signal?
