It looks like we're getting the same results in Sacramento, CA that others are getting in NC and FL.

As I documented on my Blog at (((redacted))) and my daughter in hers at (((Redacted)))

we were sold a Mitsubishi Mirage that looked perfect from above, but our mechanic told us after a 4-second inspection that it was badly corroded underneath. Our mechanic told us that if any real mechanic had put this up on a rack, it would have been blindingly obvious that this car had serious trouble. He thought the car might have been from the east originally and been subjected to a lot of snow and salt.

On the plus side, they DID accept our 5-day test drive return, but the next day the car was back on the website - for sale at the same price we paid.

I would recommend taking any car bought from any CarMax DIRECTLY to a qualified mechanic within 12 hours after purchase. Apparently the car inspection they do at CarMax is sadly lacking.

When buying a car you should just ask the sales consultant where it came from. Carmax never states or says that they inspect for rust. In cases where the vehicle came from a typically snowy region it is to standard to sell the car. They do look at the vehicle and if vehicle standards for the rust you see is typical for that region they pass it. This would have been a vehicle transfered by a customer from a snwy region where it was passed on the inspetion because in those regions it's difficult to not sell that car. so the standrd is set.

Just ask your sales rep for an auto check to determine if a customer transfered it from a ne region where it may have been sunject to snow.

That will help you have a better experience. Carmax is really a great way to car buy.
