We went on a cruise October 16, 2005. It was supposed to be a Western Caribbean cruise. We were not informed until boarding the ship that our cruise itinary had changed. We were simply handed a flyer. We were not given a choice to get off, cancel or anything. The cruise we ended up going on was 1/2 the price of what we paid, (I know because I checked the prices online).

Anyway, we ended up going on an Eastern Caribbean cruise which took us to San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Marten and Nassau.

1st stop was San Juan. When we were finally able to get off the ship in San Juan the town was basically closed because we didn't get there until 5:00 p.m. It was dark and basically the only thing open were bars. It was a wasted time.

2nd & 3rd stops. St. Thomas and St. Marten were okay but we weren't there long enough to do much and felt very rushed.

Last stop. Nassau. They didn't let us off the ship until 3:00 and were told we had to be back by 7:00. This left very little time to do anything. On top of that many shore excursions were cancelled so it blew scheduled plans.

We complained onboard but nothing was done about anything. I agree with past complaints. We were definitely ripped off. The staff were rude and uncaring and the whole trip was a total waste of time.

This cruise was half the price of what we paid for and we want the difference in money but if at all possible would like a refund. Ha! Like that would happen.

I've heard since that Carnival is a rip and I can assure you from the experience we had we will not be going on anymore Carnival cruises and will spread the word here to all who are planning a future trip. This was our 4th cruise and plan on more but not with such an unprofessional company.

Sheryl Did You Do Your Homework?

#2Consumer Suggestion

Sheyl,

So, let me get this straight. You are angry at Carnival Cruise Lines for the contingency planning they made in the face of Hurricane Wilma. What did you expect by cruising the Caribbean in the middle of hurricane season? If anything, you should be angry at your travel agent for not explaining that the reason your rates were so low was because you were cruising smack dab in the middle of the Atlantic/Caribben hurricane season.

Months before you even boarded the ship
you should have read the "terms and conditions" section of the cruise brochure before you plopped down any money. That section would have outlined the rights the cruise line has in altering itineraries at their discrtion. Or, did you simply think that such things didn't apply to you?

And once you boarded the ship, a representative gave you a hand out/flyer/whatever. Did you read it or just set it aside? You never mentioned what was said on the flyer. Did it explain the change in itinerary?

As an informed traveller, it is just as much your reponsibility to ascertain the conditions under which your choose to travel. No educated traveler goes to Southeast Asia during the monsoon season or Australia in what is the United States spring/summer seasons (fall/winter for Australia) without understanding the condition...or was that low rate just too good to pass up???
