Complaint Review: Carnival Seamiles

Carnival Seamiles I was "sold" a Carnival seamiles credit card while onboard however the program does not live up to its promise by Carnival and when Carnival Cruise Lines is directly conntacted in regards to the discrepancy they refer complaints to Carnival Seamiles Credit Card.... Also discount programs offered for miles are often more expensive than researching offers directly online. Ripoff Miami Internet

I got a seamiles credit card on a cruise an we thought that after hearing the sales pitch that this was an awesome way to earn a free cruise...

I have used the credit card sparingly but then we decided to book a few cruise vacations for the entire family/year. My credit limit wasn't high enough to accomodate the charges so I prepaid the amount I needed.
I booked my cruises via Carnival.com and an online representative. Even though I had a positive balance the charges didn't go through... The cruise line called me back and asked for another form of payment. That's when I was told that Carnival Seamiles is NOT affilitated with Carnival Cruise Lines but rather is an independent Bank....

When contacting Seamiles I was informed that even though I had a positive balance each charge on my credit card needed to be in (processed) which can last anywhere between 3-5 days before the "credit limit" is released and I could reuse the card.. I was charged a over the limit fee of $39 (even though I had a debit balance on my account) and my interest rate went up to 31.9% (their default rate)...

So much for being a good customer...

That's one part of the story... the other part is that in order to get a free cruise (for one person 3-5 days you have to spend around $60 000 on your credit card.. so if like the average person you keep a balance on your credit card figure out how much interst you have paid if the interest is 21%...) My recommendation... Save first... go shop for a discount on the travel site and pay cash... You will get a free cruise way before your points accumlate to get anything from carnival).. My mom used to say there is NO SUCH thing as free and it definitely applies to Carnival Seamiles!!!!

The third and most important fact is to book a seamiles cruise you have to go through their seamiles program which barely gives any discounts on the cruises so in comparison you are still better off using internet special through discount brokers...
