Carpenter's Auto Repair Bad Customer Service Experience Rockford, Illinois
My daughter's father had Carpenter's Auto Mechanic do a couple thousand dollars worth of work back in April of this year, including the struts on her car. The car was brought to Texas last month because this is where our daughter lives. Last Friday night, the bolt and plate that hold the passenger side strutt in place completely sheered off while she was driving it. I spoke to an employee at Carpenter's Saturday morning and told him it was the 1999 Ford Contour. He told me that he didn't have an invoice for the part (that is under warranty) because he trust his guys at NAPA to order what is needed (he very much remembered who my ex-husband is because he apparently has ALL of his several vehicles worked on there). But the employee did tell me that it was the cheapest strut NAPA makes for this car. My mechanic ordered the part with NAPA and went to pick it up today (Monday) and was told by NAPA that we had to have the invoice. My mechanic calls the employee at Carpenters and is told that it isn't a NAPA part but is an Advanced Auto Part! To make a very long and frustrating story short, my mechanic was bounced around between NAPA and Advanced Auto for about 3 hours today because of the incompetence of Carpenter's employee. They apparently had it all screwed up because they kept telling NAPA and Advanced Auto that it was a Neon car! When I called the employee at Carpenters today, he told me that whoever he spoke to last Saturday morning (which was me) that he was told it was a Neon and NOBODY EVER said anything about a 1999 Ford Contour. I then told the employee that it was me he spoke to on Saturday and that I didn't even know that my ex-husband owned a Neon. At that point, the employee hung up on me. Of course, he told my ex-husband that I was not HIS ex-wife and he wasn't going to put up with being yelled at (which is a bold faced lie). He became mad when I caught him in his lie about the Neon car and my daughter's Ford Contour and hung up on me.
As it turns out, the strut part is from ADVANCED AUTO AND NOT NAPA. All this employee had to do was fax a copy of the parts invoice to the auto parts store here in Texas instead of running my mechanic back and forth between the two parts stores because of his INCOMPETENCE. This mechanic is unprofessional and his customer service skills belong in the toilet.
If they can't even figure out what parts were used on your car because a part is defective and is still under warranty, then how competent can they be when they actually work on your car?
As I stated earlier, my daughter's father had a couple thousand dollars of work and parts put into this car by Carpenter's Auto and now I will always have to worry about the "friendly" help I will receive from this place of business in the future if further warranty or workmanship issues appear.

first of all we still work on your ex husbands cars. we have worked on all of them & still do. will do shop around to get the best prices for him as others. the warranty is still the same 12 months 12,oooo miles which ever comes first. who ever you spoke with first at my shop some how got the vehicles mixed up. pretty simple when we work on 5 different vehicles of his. you did get pretty pushy & snotty with us over the part breakage. but in the end it still was replaced a no charge to you. good luck in the future & try to work on your patience..
