This happened to us on each of 3 hospital stays. We were billed $160. for self administered drugs which are not covered by Medicare and consequently not covered by supplemental insurance. There is not itemization, hence the drug may be as simple as an asprin or sleeping pill.

After the first, time we write on the front page of the admission slip "Patient does not accept self-adminstered drugs" and refuse then except when a hospital employee either injects them or puts them in our mouth.

I have been in correspondence for 2 months on the last billing. It's an easy way for hospitals to get $160 payment from patients. I was told only one insurance covers this cost, so the hospitals are aware of the opportunity.
