My problem arises one dreary day I was reduced sleeping away the morning, getting some well needed rest and trying to avoid the wife. Out of the blue, my wife is screaming up the steps; "hey hun, telephone...it's some guy i dont know he wont tell me what he wants" I thought to myself, " who is calling me at on a saturday morning".

I dragged myself out of bed grabbed a cigarette and went to the phone. I picked up the phone and this man immediately forced me to identify myself. I stated that my name was indeed rusty, and then i asked him just what it was that he wanted. He proceeded to go into this sermon about how he was the debt man and he comes to me to collect on a seriously delinquent sum money.

I told him that I realize I owe the money but I didnt have it since I've been disabled for the last 3 months due to a dislocated toe I suffered at work on the corner of the mens room door. The bills is only delinqunt since may 18th 2002! My wife is working part time suporting four kids and is pregnant right now with a little girl. He started asking me about my mortgage and how much i pay for light and propane. I told him i was out late with friends and he just happened to awake me.

I told the guy I was broke a bunch of times, but he some how knew I had my credit card and kept asking me questions. I told him I didnt two times but he kept persisting that i did;he some how was able to tactfully corner me on all of my objections. He probaly was the most eloquant, well spoke gentleman i've ever talked to. I swore at him and he only continued to gently pool me back on topic. He never once raised his voice, scream or yell at me. It eminded me of talking to my minister.

He told me he didnt need to threaten me. He said he has facts to back him up. I ended up paying my bill and actually do feel good after clearing it up, but some how I feel belittled and stupid because these collection agencies are employing these highly intelligent people who are able to "psycologically" collect debts from unwilling customers. This should be outlawed. They made me feel stupid and none amount of money can get that back!
