I recently ordered CedarCide for flea prevention for our cat. A company employee, beforemy purchase, told me to saturate our cat with the spray and rub it in to the skin. After following the company employee'sinstructions and applying to our cat, she looked like she had been dunked in a barrel of oil. The product seperated her hair and maid it stand up like a spiked hair style with hair gel.

Our cat kept squinting her eyes, due to the strong aroma of the product, and appeared extremely uncomfortable. When she tried to wash herself she would gag....I fell terrible for even putting this on her. This appearance and trauma lasted for more than four days, even though we attempted to towel the stuff off her.

When I contacted the company to request a refund I was given the run around for nearly two weeks; including being hung up on. I sent a fax and also emailed the posted email contact. The reply I received was from a "Dr Ben Oldag" who stated "My response is on behalf of CedarCide Industries Inc. of which I am a major stockholder and employee". I later found out that the response was actually from the registered OWNER, David Glassel.

This deceptive "owner" refused any request for refund and attempted to shift the blame on misapplication of the product even though I explained the specific instructions given and problems we had. If you have this product do NOT put it on your cats. If you don't have the product DON'T buy it...you will regret it !!!

I have 17 years experience in training and housing dogs and am not inexperienced in this area. I have had numerous cats and dogs throughout my life. I have NEVER had a pet product with as much trouble as this product, nor delt with a business who cares less about it's customers. Pet Owners BAN CedarCide !!!!!

The rebuttal to the original complaint just doesnt sound right to me. This person does not seem to have any compassion for its own cat. Thats pretty rare for a cat owner. Also this person is quoteing the Cedarcide company line on Spot flea killers.

I bought Cedarcide myself as the ads say pet safe. But then I got the bottle and it warned against using it on cats. I sprayed my whole house with this stuff but then my can pretty much refused to walk anywhere in the house inlcuding the food dish.

I think you have to go with your gut when an animal reacts against a product like cedarcide.

I wont be buying another bottle. Its clear to me that its just not safe for cats.

Rebuttals From Company Owners Should Be Disclosed

It is VERY interesting that the "CONSUMER" rebuttal is almost verbatim what was sent as a response to the Texas BBB, by CedarCide OWNER - David Glassel, the SAME DAY (this) rebuttal was posted.

Here are my observations about the "CONSUMER's" response:

1) YOU stated that "I typed in Cedarcide today on google as I was going to their website to order some more product for my cat. When I stumbled across this website with this consumer's complaint..." Problem with that statement is this complaint, unfortunately, does appear on the first 50+ hits for CedarCide and in fact you have to dig to find this. IF YOU were a return buying "Customer" you would not have "stumbled" across this report. As the Owner of the company, who I told that I would be posting complaints, you WOULD know to dig for this or look here. I must thank you though; You see buy starting this way you caused Me do check Before I typed which led me to some other sites where there are other complaints and I will add there also.

2) In my original ripoff report posting I never mentioned anything about any prior usage of Spot Drops" or any other flea prevention usage. However, YOU mentioned that in Your response. Isn't it interesting that I DID make mention of that in my email to the CedarCide owner! hmmm

3) In your response you mentioned that my cat was "vomiting".....again, I did NOT say anything like that in the ripoff report submission. Where did you get that idea?

hmmm, again

3) As to your comment about me not complaining that the product did not work; My complaint made directly to the product provider was about the 1) bad instructions given by their employee prior to my purchasing 2) deception by the company "OWNER" David Glassel who tried to pass himself off as a "Dr Oldag"and stating "...I am a major stockholder and employee." rather than identifying himself as the Owner of the company when asked directly, and then ending the email response with "Thank you for using CedarCide ProductsDr. Ben Oldag"rather than acting as a responsible business owner and working with a dissatisfied customerand 3) my dissatisfaction with the product which the owner says he will not back with any kind of refund because "CedarCide Industries, like any reputable insect control manufacturer makes no explicit guarantees of performance related to its products." which is very strange/ unusual to me.

I did tell the owner that AFTER saturating my cat, as instructed that we STILL found LIVE fleas on her when we brushed her and toweled her to try to get the oil off of her.

Your response is titled "I suggest you follow the instructions....." Well let me quote you a few lines from the instructions provided directly from the company with the product 1) "Rest assured, you cannot use too much solution." 2) "Use the product liberally the first time making the animal wet with the solution." (note - the company's instructions have bold print as shown in the quote...only specific words).

I DID follow the instructions of BOTH the EMPLOYEE of the company and of the paper instructions ..which by the way corresponded pretty well.

As for the "Consumer's" rebuttal insinuating that I am "complaining about a company trying to get something for free" you are way off the mark. First, IF the product worked I would buy More, just like any other product I enjoy. Second, I was not getting anything for free...I originally offered to pay return postage for the 2 quarts purchased (minus about one cup which I used) and was refused.Had I said I had used the 2 quarts and then wanted a refund your accusation would be closer to making sense, however, given the facts you are way off base.

Myfinal observation is that if You (as you stated in your response)"sprayed the entire house down" either You have a very tiny house or you are not the product consumer you purport to be since that is not the application method for "spraying down your house"

Given all of the above it seems very clear to me that "someone" at CedarCide is trying to defendtheir reputation when it would (and still could) be much easier to just refund the $59.90 and take your product back! If this is the case, at least be honest enough HERE to represent yourself as a member (or owner) of CedarCide rather than hiding behind a curtain as has been done with the email correspondence and with reporting to the BBB.

#4Consumer Suggestion

Mon, January 31, 2011

I typed in Cedarcide today on google as I was going to there website to order some more product for my cat. When I stumbeled across this website with this consumer's complaint the funny thing is anything can make a cat vomit or throw up and any sensible cat owner should know this. Especially when introducing a new strong aromato the enviroment that is why it is always advisible to let the feline get used to it before "saturating" them.

I myself had a bad infestation of flea's last year so I ordered a qt. of Best Yet well it killed the fleas on my cat and dog but of courseI still had them in my house. So I called the company kinda upset and they explained to me it is also necessary to spray the entire house as the lay the eggs and larvae in the carpet and its necessary to kill there before they hatch (the best yet kills the eggs). So I ordered another gallon and sprayed the entire house down thank god it worked because I was going crazy it killed them all so fast they had no where to runI was vacuming dead fleas for days.

As for the cat he did not seem to like the smell but you know what its better than having fleas so to this day I still spray it on him, he is used to it now and acts as if he does not even notice it. I noticed this guys complaint was not that the product didnt work but that his cat was sick well there is a number of things that could of caused that including the years of "spot drops" he probably used before hand I would suggest reading and following the instruction's before complaining about a company trying to get something for free. I would suggest if you don't like it on the cats not to spray them but to spray the house this will fix the flea problem. I wouldnt go blaming the company for you're cat's vomitting when there are a number of factors that could of contributed to him/her getting sick I noticed though you had no complaint about still having fleas.
