The info below is what happened to me to make me feel I was ripped off by Centennial Wireless and the opinions are my opinions.

I recently switched from Centennial Wireless to Verizon Wireless as I get a discount through my work. I have been out of my contract for over 2 years now and was just going month to month. Verizon allowed me to use my old number. I called Centennial about a week later to find out if I paid ahead a month or behind a month and to see if I was due a refund. The "lady" informed me that since I didn't notify them at least 30 days ahead of time that I was going to cancel, that they were to charge me for an extra month. I asked her how that was legal. They were going to charge me for a month's of service that they weren't going to provide? Yep. I went through several levels of people, all of whom were extremely rude and talked down to me. I spoke to a woman who said she would remove the extra calling features on my phone, but that was all she could do. Whenever I explained that I didn't think it was fair or good customer service to charge people for an extra month of service they were NOT providing, she explained that that was too bad and that I signed a contract saying that I was willing to pay that. I told her that I have been out of contract for over 2 years. She said that you are still under contract, even if you are not under contract. Apparently, this carries over for the rest of your natural born life. I explained that the salesperson never explained that to me. She stated that that was also too bad, but there is nothing she or ANYONE in the company can do about it. Not even the president of the company? Nope, she said. I told her that I felt like this was a scam to rip off customers for an extra month for canceling their service. After all, my normal bill was going to be on 5/15 and now they are going to charge me up through June. I switched on 5/5. Why am I being charge for the rest of May and through June? If I am no longer under contract, why do I have to PAY my way out of a contract I am not under anymore? I'm not leasing a car or renting a home. I'm not using ANY of Centennial's services. They are basically just getting an extra month free of my money for me and my husband's bill on service we won't be getting. Seriously? How in heck is that legal? Even if it is legal, how is it RIGHT? I also told her it was a real shame that they don't believe in the importance of good customer service and that I would notify everyone I know and that I would report them on Ripoffreport.com. She didn't care. She said that I am welcome to my opinion. I also told her that I would NEVER be a customer for Centennial again. She said that was fine.

I finally got off the phone, feeling very upset and frustrated. I ended up going to a Centennial store in Richmond, IN and explained to one of the guys at the store. He shrugged and said that was too bad and there was nothing he could do. I told him that I felt that this was a scam to charge people for service they aren't getting. He said that it wasn't a scam, but there still wasn't anything anyone could do about it. He brushed me off and acted like he couldn't have cared less.

If you make the mistake of getting Centennial Wireless service, make sure you call them and notify them if you switch (and trust me, you probably will). If you don't, you will also feel scammed and ripped off. Centennial Wireless sucks and I hope they go into bankruptcy and all those people who don't care about their customers lose their jobs and NEVER find a good job. And I hope they will all think of me and wish they could have been good to at least one customer. Do yourselves a favor, go with someone else. At this point, ANYONE else. Good luck to all the poor folks who will get scammed and ripped off by Centennial Wireless in the future. I don't expect that Centennial will do anything to make this right with me, but I will above and beyond to tell everyone I know about my experience, including by email and myspace.

30 day policy

#3UPDATE EX-employee responds

I have had a few different providors and all have had the 30 day cancel policy in the contract. Also all the contracts have said once the term is up it will go to a month to month contract until cancelled. If you had a plan that was $x.00 when you signed up and at the end of your two years it was no longer available you would still get that price. Once you tell the company you want to cancel for any reason you still have 30 days to use the service if you want. That is your choice.
Most people give the cancel notice and than do the switch within the 30 days. To port the phone number like you did mostly takes a bit and that gives you time to get everything set up. If you are billed correctly you should only be charged part of June. Your last bill should be for May 16th to June 5th.
As for Verizon allowing you to use your old number. Really they did not have a choice. That is called porting and the Federal government put that in place for cell phones and home phones. You can move almost any phone number from one carrier to another.

I would suggest reading the Contract that you signed

I would suggest reading the contract because their is a clause stating that THERE IS A 30-DAY WRITTEN NOTICE and that is part of the 30-Day Cancellation Process that you are charged for the final 30 days.

So, if you were cancelling, you are responsible for the final 30 days of service. If you are out of contract, you are still being billed from Month to Month until either you decide to cancel or sign a new contract.

IT IS NOT A SCAM (BECAUSE IT IS A CONTACT) and I would really suggest you watch the words that you are using because if Centennial finds out about this YOU COULD BE SUED FOR LIBEL AND SLANDER and some people at CENTENNIAL DO CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMERS.

AND GOING INTO BANKRUPTCY? AT&T is in the process of taking over Centennial.
