Central Arizona Shelter Services mistreatment of personal belongings, unfair treatment Phoenix, Arizona
Hi, my name is Kary Pace. That is my real name. This is a preliminary report on how I am being treated at Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS).
I had recently become homeless again in Arizona as a result of the Republican controlled government here who had refused to accept the Federal Money to continue my Extended Benefits thru this summer. This in itself will be addressed in a separate report.
However, last night I entered the CASS overflow shelter for the 3rd night in a row after losing my room which I could not afford after being denied the Extended Benefits offered by the Federal Government.
The gist of this is that I was harassed continously by another homeless person when I entered the shelter. He was egging me on for some kind of confrontation. I attempted to do everything to his liking including putting my smelly shoes under my mat.
However, this kept on until one of the shelter workers insist that I not sit sideways on my mat on the floor. This meant I must sit facing my harassing fellow homeless person in the next mat.
The situation continued until I had enough of it and told the other homeless person who was bothering me to shut up and I yelled it very loudly. I told him "Don't ever talk to me again."
I began walking out because I had enough of this nonsense after 117 degree heat and not having resources to get new shoes and so forth which the harasser apparently though I should have been able to get.
The short of it is that CASS took the side of the harasser and I wound up outside in the worst Dust Storm that many Arizona's have seen in years. I slept on a bus stop because there is no other choice.
Today, my bus pass runs out and I'll truly be "on the street". I attempted to find help at Phoenix Rescue Mission and was turned away from there as well. (More on them in a separate complaint.)
My main desire is to let the world know that facts. If I wind up dead because of this heat and the feeling of being abandoned, then I'd like to have at least gotten a word in.
By the way, a fellow saw me the next day who had overhead the whole thing and he said, "You had every right to get upset and they took his side."

I just noticed since we have about the only complaints on here about it that Ken is the one that commented on mine also with a snide comment. Everyone is not able to find work in a recession. I resented the treatment and taking advantage of me like a prisoner. I had not been in a shelter before this. I supported myself for years. I think Ken either works there or has not a lot to do. Why would he be so upset about my comment? If people knew where this was or had the time to comment, this would be filled with complaints.
Many are afraid of reprisals. Maybe I did go on and on but it was a mess. It is as if no one will really believe you about it. Something should be done about CASS. There are or were many complaints about the jail here also I was luckily never in. If I asked someone in it, she did not say anything though. There is continuous bothering. When they are not bothering you get to be glad just for not being bothered. It is something that you have to learn to put up with. It is not good. It is like being captured and brainwashed. I am just not a branwashable person.

I apologize about CASS.
I over-reacted to this situation.
CASS is doing an outstanding job helping thousands of needy people.
I have talked to two volunteers at CASS overflow and they understood.
Homelessness is hard for me to handle as it is for everyone.
CASS did not deserve this complaint.
I have to adjust my attitude in a difficult situation.

You should read this guy's other "Ripoff Reports", he's a professional complainer.
He implies the WORLD is against him and always has been.
He's filed at least 4 complaints alleging the Navy ripped him off, the shelter ripped him off, the Republicans ripped him off, Arizona ripped him off, another military branch ripped him off and I'm waiting for the one where his Mother ripped him off.
He's a loser looking for sympathy and more handouts...I'd prefer not to help him through my tax dollars.

You can even thank the government for your right to vote.

jobs are a lot harder to get then you think especially if you are homeless with no address and phone or clean clothes. Just because a person is homeless and down doesn't mean they should be treated without respect and dignity

Your entitlement mentality is showing.
