I have had a Chadwicks Catalog account for years. I placed a phone order and charged it to my Chadwicks card. They made the error of charging the purchase to a Metrostyle account. I have never ordered anything from Metrostyle and did not have an account with them. They just decided to open one for me. When I received a bill from Metrostyle, I called to see what it was for since I had not placed an order. We found out about their error, which they told me could not be corrected.

Several emails and phone calls from me asking for them to put the charges on my Chadwicks card and close the Metrostyle account produced only FORM emails in return. I did not want more open credit, or more finance charges or another bill to pay.

I contacted all 3 credit reporting agencies and disputed the bill, but they would not take it off because Metrostyle told them the money was due. So I paid them both, on the same day I usually pay Chadwicks, mailing them (TN to TX)one week before the due date.(It had never been late before) They were due on the 5th, they said they received the payments on the 6th, and they charged the late fees on the 4th. TWO separate late fees.

I am guessing that they held the payments in their office until they were late because I sent both checks and bills in the same envelope since both bills had exactly the same mailing address, (THEY were the ones who had made the accounts interchangable.)It must have been very difficult for them to figure out how to handle 2 checks in one envelope, so that took an extra couple of days?

My problem is this: All of this came about because of their error which they refused to reverse. Any credit card company could hold your payments and say they are late. If they open an additional account without my request, then they get to double up on finance charges and fees. I think maybe this could be a planned "error" to incur extra charges. Is there anything I can do about the late fees? And, getting the charges back on the right account.
