I contacted Chamberlain Restoration for some old family pics that needed be repaired. I sent them the pictures, they said they would get an estimate together. He was supposed to email me a sample of the work for a deposit of the job. I told him I wanted my original Picture back, since he tried to pull a fast one. Then he called damanding payment of $440, for restoring the photographs, then said that I authorized the work to be done. Which was never the case. So It looks like Im out of some family photos, that cant be replaced.

I did agree over the phone to hire them to restore the photographs & to pay a 50% deposit before they would e-mail the restored images. I am sorry for the confusion.

#4REBUTTAL Owner of company

My name is Mark Chamberlain I am the owner of the company that Kathy hired to restore her family photographs. When Kathy hired us to restore her photographs she agreed to pay us a 50% deposit as it says on our website before we email her restored photographs back for her to see. After we fully restored Kathy's photographs & sent her a bill & called & spoke to her personally explaining that she needed to send us the deposit which she agreed she new she owed us but said she changed her mind 2-3 weeks after she hired us & the work was already done.
I explained that if she had let us know within a week of hiring us there wouldn't have been a problem we wouldn't have charged her anything. Kathy got mad and hung up on me & never responded to any of our future emails or phone calls.
I feel very bad about the situation & I even offered Kathy a discount as a good faith jester & to offer her free fiancing if she wanted to pay her bill over time.
I am a very honest businessman that has been restoring photographs and other items for over 30 years. We have a 99% satisification rate with our clients. I will always be willing to help Kathy in any way I can.
If anyone has any other questions about this matter they can call me toll free at 1 800 950-0301

Ask to see your contract!

#4Consumer Suggestion

Thu, January 29, 2009

If you actually agreed to have restoration done, demand to see a copy of your contract! Assuming you are not mistaken, they should have a copy of something from you agreeing to pay. If they cannot come up with some sort of agreement between you and them, then you might be able to sue to get your pictures back.
Did you find this crook on the 'net, or locally? If you did it over the internet, you might be screwed. I would find a legal clinic somewhere, and ask them. Maybe you could be on Judge Judy!
