Complaint Review: Chapel Sales

This company calls themselves a magazine/book clearing house, but believe me, something smells rotten in this "Chapel".

They use young people as door-to-door salespersons working in every state. They say that for every subscription they sign up, they get points toward cash (or just cash) for school.

I reluctantly ordered. He said it was $28.00 for a year, so I wrote him a check and he was off. Within 2 weeks I got a "welcome" letter... and a bill for $26.00 more! I called the customer service # on the statement and it was nothing but a recording!

It was then that I decided to look them up online. Using a search, I found their website (yawn), but I also found a link to a message board filled with over 2 years worth of bad comments about them.

I made a copy of their bill & sent them a letter stating I refuse to give them one dime more than I signed for and that I was reporting them to the US Postal Service and the Federal Trade Commission.

Well....imagine my surprise when I got a postcard, then a letter telling me my bill had been revised! I got an email back from the FTC & a letter from the USPS, along with a copy of what had been sent to Chapel Sales, stating this was being sent on to their Criminal Investigations Division.

The investigation is ongoing....

I know this is long, but it has to be said. This company often NEVER even sends out the order to the publishers, so many never get what they paid for.
