My fiance, his brother & I decided to dine in at Charley's Steakery on Bride St. one afternoon. This would be our LAST. We go inside, order our meals, and started talking to someone we knew that was working the grill (behind the glass) while we were waiting for our food. We get our food, sit down, and are almost finished, when this woman walks out from the back up to our table and says, "My cashier is new, and she says you didn't pay!!" I was pretty sure my fiance paid, as usual, so I told her that she did & she walked back in the door she came out of. No apology, no nothin'! & She did this in front of a whole dinning room full of customers.

She storms back out in probably 1 minute and says "NO YOU DIDNT, I LOOKED AT THE CAMERA!" I told her to calm down it wasnt that big of a deal, and she just got more rude with me. Just to get this woman to go away and save us some embarrassment, because we couldnt really remember for sure if we paid anyway, I told my fiance to just pay her. He gave her the 22.00, AGAIN.

As we were sitting there I started to think about it, and I am pretty sure he did pay (THE FIRST TIME), and I was getting upset about how we were treated. My fiance went to the counter and calmly asked her to see the video if it was indeed in the back, and she saw we didnt pay. She said no and started yelling saying she was going to call the police!!?

This lady was as discusting as they get, very rude, not very clean, presentable looking (Visible tattoos everywhere) and probably pocketed the money herself.!!!

The manager DID in fact tell me that there were cameras, and tried to make us look like we were trying to get a free meal, or steal. I am not that type of person and was very offended that I was being perceived that way by other people dining in. Maybe the employees of CHARLEY'S should learn the procedure of taking an order and this kind of ordeal would not happen again. :) thank you.

P.S- The police were only called because we were being "threatened" with the police like WE were the ones doing something wrong.

#5UPDATE Employee

Fri, August 17, 2007

On the particular evening the complaining party came to dine I was working. The party did in fact come in, and began talking to another employee. There were 3 people, 2 males, 1 female. The first male ordered, moved to allow the female to order, as she ordered the first male began talking more, and the female followed, leaving the last male to order. The cashier was concerned with telling another employee a particular request with the meal, and they all moved on.

When we were ready to "clear" the order from the display screen it couldn't be cleared, meaning the order was not paid for. Yes they were informed, no problem resulted in the beginning. Then it suddenly became an issue of the cashier pocketing the money from the order. The drawers were counted, did not come up over by any amount, which they would have had the order been paid for. The male continued to then state that she had put it in her pocket, the cashiers pockets, and purse were checked. The complaining party then chose to call the police. The police spoke to both parties, explained the situation, after the police left the property the complaining party then left pulling through our drive thru yelling something?? I know that until the male became rude it was not an ugly situation.

The 3 individuals were asked to come in to speak with the person most in charge of Charley's. They did not show up for that. They were never told there was a monitor in our building, the story told is not as employees recall it. I decline to comment on how I felt the individuals looks or anything, that has nothing to do with anything.

Regardless if we did, or did not pay. There is not a reason in the world to be treated that way while having a meal. Like I said above, I was being embarrassed in front of an entire dining room full of customers, and that the cashier was new, so NO I did not recieve a reciept! Thanks :)

"I was PRETTY SURE my fiance paid". "...we couldn't remember FOR SURE if we paid anyway,...". I find it odd that when you use the term "we" couldn't remember and your fiance is suppose to have been the one that paid and he can't remember. "...PROBABLY pocketed the money herself". And I find it really odd that someone would pay twice. Was there anything you were SURE of? I think the cashier was the only person who seemed to know what happened that night. You were too busy talking to the cook to know what happened? The few times I go to places like that, they always stuff a receipt into my hand. It probably pays to get a receipt, in the future. That way you'll know for SURE that you paid.
