My wife and I have credit scores between 680 and 715. We got a Chase credit card through AARP 3 years ago due to the attractive interest rate (7.99%). We transferred a higher rate card and settled in making payments. Last month for whatever reason, we did not receive a statement. Let me state that we have never ever before been late with a payment. By the time the missing statement was discovered, the payment was eight days late. I immediately called Chase and advised the young lady of what happened. I fully expected to pay the late fee of $35.00 and did not even discuss that with the person I was speaking to. I really wanted Chase to know that this whole thing was an inadvertant error and that I was not trying to play any games. I immediately paid the late payment, the current payment and the late fee via on line. Two weeks later, I go on line to check the account to be sure everything is ok and what do I find?? My interest rate had been upped to 23.99%. I call and ask why this has been done in light of the fact that I have never been late before, called to report what happened, and paid immediately. I never tried to make it sound like Chase didn't send the statement, I know better. It was sent, I just don't know who actually received it. No matter. I was treated like the worst delinquent account they have in their office. I spoke to a manager and pleaded that my previous repayment history should speak for itself and that sometimes mistakes do happen. Forget it. She showed no emotion, no concern, no caring and advised me that the only way the APR would be adjusted back down is if it were a Chase bank error that caused it to go up. I was advised that there are no "courtesy" adjustments. Just like that. This "unforgiving" attitude is just like loan sharking in my book. I immediately transferred my balance to a Citi Card and will never, ever deal with Chase again. After all this occured I looked them up on Rip Off Report and read about people that had accounts for 17 and 20 years being treated the same. I thought my 3 plus years of good payment history would get me some sort of caring treatment until I saw the complaints on here. This is a classic example of banks and how they really feel about their customers. They could care less about you when it comes to lining their pockets with thousands of more dollars at your misfortune. Most banks try to hide this from their customers. Chase is right in your face with it. I have read rebuttals from employees on this site that are rude and arrogant sounding. Chase should not allow this, but then again what do they care, it's all about the money. I don't need you Chase; at the rate the economy is going you better change your ways or Citi Corp. will eat you alive. I am surprised AARP continues to have a relationship with you. I wrote them and asked them what makes your bank special to people 50 years old and over. Unless you prefer rude, ignorant and uncaring customer service, I would not reccomend doing business with Chase Bank.

One question. If you know the payment is due why wait for a statement? After all we do not controll the mail. There are sevral ways to make a payment with out your account. Chase rep/chase.com/branch etc...And yes I am a chase employee. If you want to talk about the economy you may want to do your homework first. Now banks are buisness too. I am sure cause you think that you are over 50 you have special rights as to someone that is younger. Contracts are contracts and if mine stated that intrest would go up then I would make sure payment was there no matter what. it wont be long before you find something to complain about citi corp.
