My 1990 Nissan 300ZX needed an engine overhaul. I researched some prices and decided that Checkered Flag Auto Parts on Alondra Blvd. in Gardena CA was the cheapest place to have this done. I spoke to the owner John, who said it would be cheaper to replace the engine. I agreed. The job would be done for $2,500.

After he started repairs, he called several times to say it needed it other parts. These parts would increase the price agreed upon. I decided it was fine and the price crept up to about $3,300.

After 3 months, yes three months, the car was returned but it many problems. The engine smelled of gasoline, it smoked through the tailpipes, and the timing belt was installed incorrectly. They charged me another $300 to redo the timing belt. The mechanic added that the other problems were minor and would cost me a few dollars to repair or they would correct themselves. They never did. My engine started smoking tremondously.

I took the car back to Checkered Flag. The engine only had a one month warranty which had expired. John gladly said he could replace the engine for $2,300 or that he would buy the car from me for $200, yes two hundred dollars.

Checkered Flag is a rip off. Do not go there to buy parts or repair your car. The mechanics are not very good at their job, but will gladly tinker with your car for the right price.
