I ordered checks from Designer Checks, not recognizing that it was an "introductory offer" only and that I had previously ordered from them. (Who keeps track of where they ordered checks from two years ago?)

I pulled the introductory offer from some other advertisements and sent in the required money. Two weeks or so later I received an invoice for approximately $60! I called immediately and was told by a rude salesperson that I had ordered from them previously and I should always call before I order checks (Who has time for that?). However, she offered me this break at 40 % off, and she quoted me a price that certainly wasn't 40% off of what I was thinking. I told her no way; I intended to refuse the checks when they arrived.

Later, I read reports from others with similar experiences. Same story, customer orders checks, thinking it's a good offer, and then they get the megabill. The disturbing story was from a woman who rejected their checks and they were sent to someone else! So my greater fear was that they would handle these unscrupulously if I dared to return them.

So I called and negotiated a price with a supervisor. I watched my credit card to be sure they didn't overbill me, and I didn't open the checks until I verified that the charge was honest. As I told her, I needed checks, didn't trust them, and they didn't need checks with my name on them.

Of course I would never do business with these people again. Even the BBB lists a number of dissatisfied customers (but guess who advertises on the BBB website). Someone else got results by filing a complaint with her AG, but I wanted to be rid of these people.

The other misleading part is the number of names they use. I have seen Direct Checks, Designer Checks, Direct Checks, and Checks Unlimited on their material. The "supervisor" explained that they are "sister companies".

They may have my money now, but I won't choose them again, no matter how much more it costs. It will be worth it to deal with a company that can be trusted.

I have posted a note on our bulletin board at work with some of this information. I don't want anyone else to be ripped off either!

I have been dealing with designerchecks.com for about 5 years now and they are very straight forward with their offers...(you may have to read the fine print though). I have been very satisfied with them and their checks actually are better quality than the shitty overpriced ones I used to get from my bank. I hope you will give them another chance because they do offer good deals to repeat customers. In fact I have to order more next month and they are GOING to give me a deal since I have ordered like 3000 checks from them already. Have a great day and don't forget...companies will give you deals if you stick with them!!
