I received a personally addressed envelope in the mail post marked August the 29th from Santa Ana, CA.. Inside the envelope was page from an unidentifiable Orlando newspaper with a full ad regarding the wonders that accompany the ICRE's workshops (which are going to be in my area in two weeks, suprise). At the top of the page was a post-it note with " ****, You've gotta see this! " and a capital letter L. There was no name, no return address, nothing that would signify that it came from someone that I actually know. I don't know anyone in Santa Ana anyway. To top it off, the newspaper page was dated September 1, 2008. Just to recap, the envelope was postmarked in Santa Ana, California on August the 29th and it's Orlando based contents were dated September 1. So some how they sent me something that didn't exist yet. An organization (or lack thereof) that would result to this kind of deceptive advertising is nothing that I would want a part of.

#3Consumer Suggestion

Are you really complaining about deceptive advertising? You should probably do the same thing for: Fast Food companies, Beer companies, Liquor companies, Banks, Cars, Pharma drug ads...well, pretty much any form of advertising. And reporting this to rip-off report? Really?!? I happen to be a customer of their's and have done better than they could even have suggested in their ad. Much better! But that's because I worked hard and made it happen.

deceptive advertising!?

#3Consumer Comment

Fri, November 21, 2008

I read the comment about deceptive advertising sent by F. from Florida who complains that he/she received a newspaper clip and a sticky note saying "You've got to see this".
This person says that it is deceptive because the date of the newspaper clip was post dated to the mail in date. So what? especially that the company she is referring todoes trainings all over the US and Canada every single week. Could it be that the person that sent it to her saw it in another market and wanted to recommend it to you?
If the complaint is about the date of the evnt versus the date he/she received the mail, well I have in front of me a newspaper called the "Oranger" and it is a weekly paper that has events coming up for the whole week (all post dated). What's so unusual about that? Does this make the newspaper unethical?
Maybe it is not an individual that sent you this because you are such a cynic no one would send you such a newspaper clip then it must be a marketing gimmick.
But then what would make this "deceptive"? It would have been deceptive if it said "this works" or "this is the best you will ever see" etc. instead the note merely saidn"you've got to see this". What's the bid deal?
This shows how some consumers are totally messed up nowadays. This person is lacking judgement on the real issue is so superficial is trying to judge by the label.
If a marmalade jar has "pickles" on tyhe outside, it is still marmalade. But no you refuse to even look!
Jumping into conclusion about the organization based on advertising is the lowest form of accurate judgement.
This is like saying I don;t like Budweizer beer because the people Budweizer chose for their advertisement don't look honest. Budweizer is deceptive.
Or I saying something like: I saw on TV someone saying: :"You've got to see Disney Land on Christmas day, it's beautiful" and because it's not Christmas yet I say, they are deceptive because it may not be like years past!
Grow up and learn how to form an intelligent opinion by the content not the context and stop being so superficial. Maybe if you would've gone to see what this was all about you would've learned that marketing is the life blood of any business and no matter what they say or do it can always be misconstrued as deceptive or misleading. Best way to judge is to look deeper and understand what it's all about. I would say their only fault, provided it's true, the clip came in from a marketing company and not a friend, the mistake the marketing company made is not weeding you out as they lost money just sending you the info!
