Complaint Review: Chess Abstract - Southern Star Mortgage

Was contacted by Chess Abstract/ Southern Star Mort. to do loan closing. Asked to accept e-mail loan documents and make second set for borrower. Meet with borrower have him sign documents, notorize them, then overnite them back to Chess Abstract.

Agreed on fee was $150.00. Confirmation stating fee sent me via e-mail and faxed to me. I met with borrower and completed the assignment as hired. Three weeks later my invoice sent back to me with the words"Sorry borrower cancelled loan." They sent check for $50.00. When I called Chess Abstract was told they owe me nothing since loan cancelled. And they were being generous paying me the $50.00. I am a Certified Notary Signing Agent, commissioned in Illinois.

It's one of three businesses I'm licensed to do. I'm not in the lending business, mortgage business,etc. I close loans and notorize the doc's.

The e-mailed documents cosisted of 85 pages, another 85 pages for borrowers copies. Approx. 6mi. driving to customers location. And 3 hrs of my time on a Friday night (8pm). I fullfilled my end of verbal and written contract. And I expect them to honor their obligation, and pay the agreed on fee.

This is Theft Of Services. Whether or not borrower cancels later on not my concern.
