Chevron $126.00 HOLD for $35.00 in gas!!! Las Vegas, Nevada
I used a credit card at a Chevron gas station today, and then I came back to work and checked my balance on the card. It showed the amount I spent for gas, $35.00, and another amount for $126.00
I think that is ridiculous that Chevron is doing this. If I wouldn't of had $126.00 on the card would I not of been able to get gas? That's not right...

I'm really surprised they put this hold on your CREDIT card....

it's common to do so on a DEBIT card to be sure they get paid for the potential maximum amount of gas you bought.
It's NOT just Chevron.
And, no, you wouldn't have been able to buy gas without going inside if the funds weren't available for the hold.
You WILL get the money credited back as soon as the transaction cleared.
Most places do NOT do this on Credit cards and usually it's best to use the CREDIT card anyway.
On a debit card, just like a check, your account could show the funds available at the time of purchase, but pending prior purchases could debit your account below the amount due the business.
It's NOT fraudulent, illegal or unethical for a business to assure they get paid.
