Complaint Review: CHEVRON

CHEVRON Chevron gasoline Charged a $126 "hold" fee to my Credit Union VISA for a $50.17 purchase. RIPOFF! Caused a $5 loan transfer fee; NO CLEARLY POSTED SIGNS at the pump about this. Have used Chevron for decades prior to this! Albuquerque New Mexico

One scam after another! Is it legal for Chevron to assess a $126.00 hold fee on credit card transactions, when the amount of gas purchased is less (to the tune of $50.17 in my case)? I see other reports dating to 2010 on this...will no longer be a customer of Chevron if this practice continues. This must fall under anti-theft and anti-fraud business law! Anyone?

Thanks for your response. However it remains that since 2010, I have never been assessed this fee (to my knowledge) before - must have been lucky. Still plan to pursue this but for now, will pay inside as you suggested! The middle class continues to be screwed by giant oil corporations and banks. Wish my tax dollars did not go to bailing out such unfair and sleazy institutions. There, consider that my Yo! b**ch for the day (a la Breaking Bad). :)

This is a very common practice actually. When the prices of gas went through the roof there had to be a change in the card hold policy. It USED to be only $50. But when the price rose so did the base amount being held. When you slide your card at the pump it authorizes a flat amount. In your case $125. This is the max the can do for your normal everday car. To keep this from happening to you in the future. GO AND PAY INSIDE!!! This way you can tell them EXACTLY how much to put on the pump and you wont have a blamket hold put on your money. I had a similar issue with a local gas station. You can b***h and moan all you like, but it aint gonna help. You can call and complain to corporate all you like, they will just tell you that is the cost of swiping your card at the pump. Its a inherant limitation of the whole system. The pumps NEED to know how much gas you want to pump. If your just sliding the card and filling it up, the pump itself is not smart enough to read your mind or examine your vehicle to know exactly how much to put on for you to pump.
