One warm, balmy evening, about a month ago, my friend and I drove to a local warehouse store about a mile down the road from where I had parked my truck. We had gone bowling with a group from work and had just enough time afterwards to shop for a few household supplies. We decided to take her Dodge Charger because the air conditioning worked better than my old truck.

Upon returning to the parking lot with our goods, her car stalled. She instinctively placed the car in park in an attempt to restart it, to no avail. She suspected her husband had run it low on gas - as she worked from home, and he often borrowed the car and failed to restore the gas. Fortunately, or so we thought, there was a Chevron Gas Station in the adjacent lot. I wanted to push the car up to the fuel pumps, but the vehicle couldn't be moved out of Park. I left my friend in her car and ran through the bowling alley to get my truck in the other lot. I drove around the building and parked at a pump, went into the store and grabbed the only available 1 gallon, red, plastic gas can. I brought it up to the counter where a young, pimpley faced male scanned the can and punched a gallon of gas into the register. To my shock and awe, the clerk requested $18.57 as my eyes darted to the register's screen. I said to the young clerk, "You have got to be kidding me right now." He did not respond, nor meet my gaze. As I handed him my cash, I said, "This is a great way to take advantage of a person in an urgent situation. This is shameful" ...realizing of course that he did not set the price point. I left the store fuming mad, and glistening from the humidity. It was dark and late, and we were two, tired from-the-day, middle aged women in a not-so-great part of town. My friend was frail and had been ill for several years. I was more concerned for her safety, waiting in the car, while I was being filched for my last $20 dollar bill.

I filled the can with a gallon of regular gas and returned to my friend who was anxiously waiting about 50 yards away. It took me a minute to figure out the redesigned nozzle on my new, premium, Made in China, gas container. Once the car consumed the last few drops of precious effluvium, and it was sealed up, the engine turned over with no effort. As strangers stepped off the bus and strode past, a teenage male asked for my last dollar bill so he could buy a soda at the Chevron. I was more than happy to assist my dear friend and the stranger, but Chevron will never benefit from my business again. They lost two consumers that day.

What a buch of....well you know.

It was dark and late, and we were two, tired from-the-day, middle aged women in a not-so-great part of town. My friend was frail and had been ill for several years. I was more concerned for her safety, waiting in the car, while I was being filched for my last $20 dollar bill.

- Really? Interesting how your frail and ill friend had no issues bowling or taking extra time to go shopping at a warehouse store in a "not so great" part of town.   I guess it never occured to you if you were so concerned with her safety to bring her with you to the Gas Station...no that would be too logical right?  Or perhaps at the very least having her stay inside the bowling alley you were at earlier.

I brought it up to the counter where a young, pimpley faced male scanned the can and punched a gallon of gas into the register. To my shock and awe, the clerk requested $18.57 as my eyes darted to the register's screen.

- So have you priced out 1 Gallon Gas cans lately?  Just doing a quick search, if you headed to a local Big Box home improvement store that begins with an "L" you would find that they sell 1 Gallon Plastic Gas cans for $13.98(Item #168866).  If you add in gas at about $4/gallon and tax you end up at over $18...Ummm....I wonder what you think you should have been charged.

Perhaps the one you need to be upset at is your friend for not noticing she was low on gas.  Or perhaps her husband who fails to fill the car up.

But this is the real kicker....

As strangers stepped off the bus and strode past, a teenage male asked for my last dollar bill so he could buy a soda at the Chevron. I was more than happy to assist my dear friend and the stranger, but Chevron will never benefit from my business again.

- Well at least you didn't say it was a Nun looking to get some food for the 50 orphans she has to feed and didn't have time to go to the store.

Was this your first visit to a convenience store? They always charge more. If you were dissatisfied with the price of the merchandise you could have shopped elsewhere. You should be delighted that you and your frail ill friend’s dilemma was resolved quickly for less than twenty bucks.

You wrote that you went shopping about a mile from your truck but you only had to drive around the building to get to the gas station that was adjacent to where your friend was parked. Is that a mile-long bowling alley? Wow, those sure are long lanes.

Im not seeing the ripoff here. Its a gas can. Roughly 10-15$. There WAS a price tag on it. YOU however seek to take out YOUR issues because YOU had to pay for something. Whine a little harder for us and remind us WHY you deserve ANY pity?? I find your post to be disrespectful at the least and a out right fabrication at the most. First, that "young pimply faced male" has NO CONTROL over the prices in the store. He is just a LIVE HUMAN BEING to collect money from what YOU chose to purchase. Its a convience store, NOT pep boy or auto zone. Its a place you stop when you need something in a hurry and just don't want to drive somewhere else for the same item cheaper. YOU had a vehicle. YOU could have driven to a walmart or a autozone and purchased the very same gas can for roughly the same price. No Im thinking YOUR problem is that there was a situation and you took your bitterness out on the ONLY place nearby that could have assisted you. Go cry into your pillow, because YOU have not been ripped off. I find it disturbing that YOU would treat another person the way you treated that poor clerk. Its a s***** job and YOU have just proven that they get to deal with shitty people. You owe that poor kid an apology. He did NOTHING to you. YOU had an emergency situation and your venting at the WRONG party.

Wheres the RoR on the husband who couldn't be bothered to put gas in the car, thereby putting is supposed better half in danger of being stranded? Wheres the report showing that husband to be a raging d*****nozzel? Oh I see, its SO MUCH easier to blame the big corporation and maybe get yourself a free tank of gas then it is to actually hold the person who caused this responsible for their own actions. You sicken me and deserve all that karma is going to give you.

Your own words betray you......... I left the store fuming mad, and glistening from the humidity. It was dark and late, and we were two, tired from-the-day, middle aged women in a not-so-great part of town. My friend was frail and had been ill for several years. I was more concerned for her safety, waiting in the car, while I was being filched for my last $20 dollar bill........ Things cost MONEY!!!!!!!! If you want them you have to PAY FOR THEM!!!!! neither Chevron or the poor clerk had ANY control over WHO did or did not put gasoline in the vehicle. Its shameful of you to blame them for running a business in a CAPITOLISTIC SOCIETY!!!! If you don't like it, then I suggest that you go back to Russia comrade. I truly cant believe that people like YOU still exist. You will spend THOUSANDS on makeup and shoes but have a problem buying a gascan......THAT YOU DONT OWN!!!!! Im guessing your just one of those females that leaves all the "car stuff" to a male. Maybe educate yourself a bit more and you wont run into these problems. Im betting you would whine and complain if you had to BUY jumper cables.
