I recently used a chevron pre-paid cash card to purchase gasoline. The card was charged the credit price even though the company accepted cash for the card before services were provided.
this is being done by Shell, Chevron and Texaco to my knowledge and may be industry wide. The only gas stations that do not charge the higher price to my knowledge is Costco. This is a gigantic rip-off that amounts to a huge amount of money. As an example, if you have an average fill-up of only 10 gallons and the difference between cash and credit is 10 cents, then you have been charged an extra dollar each time. There are many millions of cars on the road and if only a small percentage are using either a gift card or even a debit card, this could be a multi- million dollar robbery of the American public.
