Complaint Review: Choice Metal Buildings

My experience with Choice Metal Buildings was fair horrible. As the date of my request was a couple of weeks out, I asked to speak with the scheduler to ensure I would be ready. However, I was told I would be called 2 - 3 days prior to delivery. That was their policy. The scheduler (Laura) called a couple of days prior to delivery and informed me “I would be responsible for sealing the building to the concrete, their crew will not do that. Laura told me her crew and my building would arrive around 1200 on Thursday the 11th of February and finish up Friday. The installer called me Thursday Morning at 0830 and said he was 30 minutes away. I contact the contractor I had hired to seal the building and he and his crew rushed out there.

However, as it turned out, the Choice Metal Installer refused to work and I was stuck paying my Contractor and his Crew $800.oo incremental. When the Installer arrived, my Contractor introduced himself saying, "How are you doing?"; and their Installer responded, "Good until now". He said he only had 12' ladders but needed 14' and asked if I had any. I said yes. He said that my expanding ladders would not work--that he needed folding ladders. I said I would get go and buy them for his crew at my own expense. Then he changed his story and said he would have to have a Sky Trac because ladders would not be enough. My Contractor said “if you get a Sky Trac you can do it”. The Installer said yes. My Contractor located and arranged to have a Sky Trac delivered by 1:00PM.

Then the Installer phoned Laura, asking for authorization to pay for a Sky Trac. She said she would get back with him. While waiting, he spoke in Spanish to his workers. My Contractors crew speaks Spanish and shared with us that the Installer and his crew wanted to be back home (out of the city) by Friday, had other jobs to do and did not think they could do them all so they wanted to abandon my job, which is exactly what happened. My Contractor explained how much effort had gone in to preparing for this day. However, this did not matter to their Installer. Then My Contractor said "If the Sky Trac gets authorized, what will it take for you to erect the building?"

He said "$1,000 cash". My Contractor countered with $800. He again spoke to his crew and they said no. So I said "OK, I will get pay you the $1,000 cash you said it takes." Laura called with authorization for the Sky Trac. Their Installer then told her on the phone, "This may well be very unprofessional of me, but I do not want to do this job". He put her on the phone with me and said she would get back with me later. The Installer and his crew left with the building. I have since requested a refund of my deposit as I have lost all confidence in Choice Metal Buildings and their affiliates. To date, they have refused to refund my deposit monies and blocked me telephonically as well as email.
