I lived in a condominiom owned by the Muellenbachs. They seemed nice, although we should have suspected something when they advertised the brand new incredible appliances and then took them out and replaced them with new, but much cheaper appliances AFTER we moved in and signed a lease.

We didn't pursue that and didn't have a problem until move out. At the walkthrough inspection they seemed to be a little nitpicky, but I agreed to just a few damages and they did note those.

When I got the itemized damages, not only had they changed the walkthrough after I signed it, they charged me for a new heater, when the old one had a little paint missing - plus almost 100 dollars in labor! They replaced one damaged door with two, new and nicer doors at almost triple the price, not including $180 is labor to stain and install it - when the original door was a veneer!

The last straw, though, was charging me for an entirely new rug. The rug had a few stains, but nothing that couldn't be removed with a professional cleaning that I had paid for when I moved in with a 250 nonrefundable fee. When I got the itemized damages, there was a charge there for $3,800 for a new carpet for the entire condominium!!!

I had paid for the month of March rent, unless they got a new tenant. Well, they did get a new tenant and instead of giving me back the almost 900 they owed me, they applied it to the "damages" without my permission or knowledge. So the bill for $3,800 is AFTER the security deposit AND rent overpayment.

While these people seem nice, they are either maliciously or misguidedly trying to renovate their condominium on my dime. I now have to fight this with lawyers and courts from Virginia Beach, as we have moved because my husband is in the military.

DON'T LET THIS BE YOU! EITHER DON'T RENT WITH THEM AT ALL, OR MAKE SURE THAT YOU DOCUMENT EVERYTHING! NOTHING IS TOO SMALL TO TAKE PICTURES OF AND GET DOCUMENTS FOR!!
