Complaint Review: CIC Credit Monitor

CIC Credit Monitor Svc DON'T BE FOOLED, THIS RIP-OFF COMES FROM MANY WEB SITES such as QSpace.com Internet

I unfortunatly became a victim of Consumerinfo.com when I came across an advertisement for a FREE credit report, provided by QSpace.com. This site offered a free credit report from one of the three credit bureaus, if I wanted all three reports then there would be a charge, also offered was a Credit Rating for an additional fee which is declined.

I requested a hard copy to be mailed to me, which was also free, however I never received it. I sent several "customer care" e-mails and I also called. I got the run around each and every time, the same old story, "we've just been swamped with requests."

By 7/31/03 My frustration grew as I realised my "Free 30 day Trial Membership" was ending and all I got from this company was a lot of hot air. I didn't have a clue as to the billing company they used and when I went to the QSpace.com site it told me that I had to contact customer care for cancellation.

With a great sigh I again made my call and I was told that my "Trial Membership" had already ended and I couldn't cancel my membership. Sheer aggrevation overwhelmed me as I stared at my e-mail confirmation from consumerinfo.com dated 7/16/03 thanking me for my credit report request. The operator told me that there wasn't anything I could do, I had to "eat the $79.95 charge to my credit card".

OK so I got sucked into their scam, so I decided to take advantage of my UNWANTED membership. I went back to QSpace.com to access my account only to find that I no longer had access to my records.

Member-only benefits my foot! Any information that I wanted would cost me another fee!

I don't have a kind word for these sites and I urge others who have found themselves in the same situation to review another person's complaint. His name is "Matthew in Tallahasse - Try poking a hole in consumerinfo's pocket." He lists many contacts to help spread the word about this RIP-OFF.

Min,

You are not out of the clear yet. If you read through some of these complaints like mine, you will see that many DID cancel before the 30 days was up and they were STILL charged. We thought we were on the ball with this stuff, too

Hopefully, that won't happen to you but don't be surprised if it does.

Hi I was so scared after reading this but...

I recently signed up for the ConsumerInfo.com and completely forgot about it, when I accidently ran into the info I wrote on my paper at the time of signing, I typed in the phone number 1-888-888-8553 and the first thing I came across was this report (last night) I was so worried and scared but when I actually called them today and very friendly representative explained to me how to get my report and that my free trial would not expire till middle of this month that I can take full advantage of this free trial membership and told me all the benefits of it.

Being a college student I can't really afford this so I just printed out my report(which didn't have much anyways) and called them back to cancel it right away and ANOTHER friendly guy took me through the cancellation just perfectly.

I even told him that all I needed was just one free report and he just laughed about it and finished my cancellation for me.

I see where the problem came from because I completely forgot too and would have gotten charged like $75, but as long as you keep stuff on track and cancel them before the trial ends with one of their friendly representatives, you should be fine and that is MY opinion.

Call them back and say "PER YOUR TERMS OF AGREEMENT I AM REQUESTING A REFUND"..Don't let them B.S. This is just one of their latest tactics where they try deter the consumer from getting a refund. Here is the exact copy of your rights listed on their very own website.

******************************************
You may cancel at any time during the free membership period. If you wish to continue your membership in the CreditCheck Monitoring Service, do nothingyour membership will continue without interruption. The annual $79.95 fee will be charged to your credit card account and your membership will continue automatically, billable annually at the prevailing rate.Even after the free trial, our service comes with a six-month, money-back guarantee*: if for any reason you are dissatisfied, you can cancel and receive a pro-rated refund of the current year's membership fee.

*You may receive a pro-rated refund when you cancel within 180 days from the date you were billed. Please note that if you choose to cancel during your free trial period, you will NOT be charged.
***********************************************
So there you have it. Call them back right now and let them that you're not falling for it.

Also, if they refuse still, then go here (I see you live in New York)

http://www.nyc.gov/html/dca/html/complaintforms.html

You must fill out a General Complaint Form. Make sure you note that they are refusing to refund your money which is against their own refund policy, attach a copy of it, too. I used Florida's Dept of Consumer Affairs. They will contact consumerinfo, that's how I got my money back.

Even if they give you your money back, go ahead and fill out the complaint form anyway because no consumer should go through this hassle.

Good luck

I don't know who you spoke to, but I have just visited the site recently, and confirmed you still have a 6 month window to qualify for a full refund. Of coarse every time I used the "Contact Us" link I got: website unavailable, error 404, this site no longer exists, etc.

You declined the offer for three, so they would not be able to use that as an excuse.

I'll repeat 1-888-888-8553 is the number to call for a full refund. This number has been working. We haven't heard back from anyone yet, and need to know if this does not work. If the number is disconnected or for whatever reason.

Next change all account information to proctect your electronic identity, and so that they don't charge you again. We've had some people whom have cancelled, and get charged again a full year later.

I would also recommend reporting this to the Federal Trade Commission. You can access their site through: www.ftc.gov.

Hope this helps, and really get back to us if you don't get results from that number.
