I accessed their service online for free credit report first of April 2003. Agreed to 30 day free trial . Company debited my checking account within free trial period. I called and cancelled by April 25, 2003. Customer service representative confirmed would cancel membership and refund $79.95.

As of 08/18, 2003 no refund has posted to my checking account. I called CIC Credit Monitor's c/s 800#, was told by rep I would not receive refund as I agreed to terms. He would not even listen to me or transfer me to a supervisor.

I am filing a complaint with South Dakota Attorney General's Office for Consumer fraud. Now also plan to contact CA State Attorney General's office for same. I doubt I will ever see my money again, but lesson learned. Having read this web site and the multiple stories I'm suprised CA has not closed these guys down.

I also signed up for a free 30 day trial and cancelled within the 30 days, and was still charged! When I had initally called w/in the 30 days, the assured me I would not be charged. I checked w/ my bank & sure enough, $79.95 had been withdrawn! I contacted the credit company immediately and discoved they had never cancelled my "membership", although when I called, the person I spoke with said it is like you never even went to the web site! I demanded a full refund and I got it! They will eventually give in, after all, what they did is ILLEGAL! A friend of mine missed the 30 days, but was still able to get a pro-rated refund, as the $79.95 is for a year of monitoring! My boyfriend was suckered into the full year and when I ordered his credit score for $5.00, the automatically charged MY credit card for another $79.95 WITH OUT MY PERMISSION!!!!!!!! I called and again demanded a refund, and again got the refund. DO NOT LET THEM GET AWAY WITH THIS!!!!!!! Get your money back!!!!! They steal enough!

Could you try for that refund one more time?

Try calling 1-888-888-8553 for that refund. According to their "Terms of Aggreement" you are still in the time limit to qualify. Maybe the person you spoke to was have a bad day. It doesn't matter though, if you try this number. Up to this point, they have been cooperating with refund entitlements.

Please get back to us if this number does not work or you end up not getting a refund anyway. I also suggest you go back to the site, print out that "Terms of Aggreement" for the record. I'll go back and review it again, but based on their own documentation, collecting a refund should not be a problem.

Again, please get back to us, because if they quit refunding; unfortunately, we will have to determine other options for everyone. We get people coming here everyday, from problems from this corporation.

Hope this helps.

Did you contact your bank?

You are probably past your bank's time frame for them to assist you, but you should call them first thing just to be sure. A bit of advice, and I say this coming from the banking/credit industry with a wrenched heart every time I speak with someone who trusted a company for just long enough for me to not be able to help them- please contact your financial institution immediately after contacting the merchant who has wronged you. Having participated in the transaction, you are obligated to attempt to resolve the dispute with the merchant directly, but call your bank right away so they can properly advise you of anything else they may need to do, or of any timeline you need to be aware of for them to help you. I wish you the best, and depending on the posting date of their charge (if it's a debit card), you just may have enough time- if you read this tonight, and the charge posted no later than 4/23....
