Complaint Review: CIC Credit Monitoring Group

I noticed a recurring monthly charge to my credit card that I did not recognize. When I finally got around to calling the number listed on my statement (September 28, 2008) for a CIC*CE Credit manager (800-3888725 CA) for a $11.95 charge, the polite individual asked for my SSN (which I gave). I was informed they didn't have my number on file.

I was then asked for the credit card number, which I gave. I was told that it was for credit report services for a Mark Stephenson- an individual that I do not know! I then asked how long this has been charged to my credit card and was informed that the account was opened on January 15, 2008- meaning that I was paying this for someone else for the last 8 months.

The 'agent' informed me that the charges would be cancelled immediately, however, the current charge (already assessed to the next month's statement) could only be cleared by the company's Consumer Relations Group (CRG) having a P.O. Box (19729) in Irvine, CA (92623-9729). I asked for an office number and he stated that there was not one he could give out.

He did give me a fax number (949-567-3858). I asked about getting the fees credited to my credit card and was again informed that I need to go through the CRG and write them a leeter of request to reverse the charges. I was politly given a reference number to supply to CIC in my correspondence.

My concern is that through an 'error' on someone's part, I have been charged a monthly fee for an individual that I do not know.
