Every morning before I leave for work, I go to my bank's web-site to see what checks had cleared the bank. This morning I noticed an entry that I was sure neither my husband nor myself had charged - Purchase Cic*credit Monit877-513-4175ca.

I decided to check up on the phone number in Google. This web-site plus many others came up. My shock turned into fury when I read about all the people who had also been ripped off.

I remember my husband had applied for a "Free" Credit report over a year ago, but had cancelled the service a month later after seeing all the so-called report contained was "Nothing to report". We were in the process of buying a home at the time and he wanted to see if there was anything that needed cleaning up before the mortgage company pulled their own report.

I called my bank's 800 number and told the woman that an unauthorized withdrawal had been made on my check card. I gave her all the details that I had and was promised that a reversal would be made with-in 3 to 10 days.

I will be calling CIC next week to let them know what steps I have taken. I will up-date when my account has been credited. I'm just glad I was able to find this web-site so I could act quickly to get my money back.

Follow up 06/25/03: CIC credited my account but not for the full amount. They took out $79.95...my account was credited for (this is a copy of the actual entry from bank): Return Cic*credit Monit877-513-4175ca $79.28 . I am not disputing the .67 that they took....but it seems weird to me that they kept that amount...unless they bill millions of people and keep a few cents out of each check they know they'll have to credit back which could equal a few million dollars....that idea is way out there...but still...

I will update this report if any more activity takes place between my bank account and these people. All in all it took 5 days to get my money back. If it wasn't for web sites like this, I would not have know that I wasn't the only person getting ripped off.

I have e-mailed my bank to make sure a report is on file about the charge. My bank e-mailed me back stateing it was. I also e-mailed CIC demanding my payment back. They e-mailed me right away (auto response) saying they would get back to me in the order that my e-mail was sent.

Saturday, 06/21/03, I received an e-mail from them asking for more information so they could update their records and "cancel" my service. I went ahead and gave them the information they requested.

I received another e-mail stateing that they would make a note to credit my acount the "next billing cycle" and that my account was closed. They said that I could no longer access my credit report via internet any longer. Funny thing was, we could never access it to begin with! I don't know what "next billing cycle" means, but I will not let this issue go until my money is back into my account.

I will update when something new occures. If anybody knows what "next billing cycle" means, please let me know. (Next month, next year???) and if I should follow this e-mail up with a phone call to CIC??? I am, of course, saving all correspondence with my bank and CIC.
