I'm not reporting on a scam just yet. We all know we need to read the fine print. Especially when it comes to revealing our personal financial information on-line.

Therefore, AFTER noticing the deduction from my bank account, I visited the RIP OFF website, only to find that I wasn't the only one who hadn't read the fine print.

I revisited the CIC website and read more fine print. The website reads that if you cancel within 180 days of when you are charged, you will receive a pro-rated refund of your current year's membership fee.

I used a number provided by a reporter to call and speak with a live representive. The rep requested a lot of personal information to access my account. I was told that I would receive a confirmation of my cancellation via e-mail within 48 hours and that my account would be fully refunded within 7-10 business days. I was not asked for my e-mail address so I guess they had that already. I just hope the information I provided for her did not dig me deeper into this mess.

I was concerned about being charged again, as another report writer had mentioned, so I called my bank. In the meantime, I received confirmation of my cancellation from CIC via e-mail. I was then told by my bank that because they sent the e-mail I had proof that they should not take any more money. If they did I could file a dispute and use the e-mail they sent me as evidence.

I'll report again in a couple weeks to report if the money was actually redeposited.

Stay tuned...
