I vaguely remember responding to an email for a free credit report almost a year and a half ago (seems longer) but I would never have knowingly signed up for any free credit report that said I would be charged money much less $12, $12.95, or as it is now, $14.95. As others have said the charge was small compared to other charges on my credit card bills and not recognizing the company it at least looked liked something official. I live overseas and so do not see my bills regularly. I only noticed it after starting online credit card service where I could check my bills online. When I called the company they were able to tell me that I have been charged for the last 16 months.

I see that some have responded to reports saying that the charge is clearly stated on the main web page for freecreditreport.com. I did not save a copy of the original web page or email but I seriously doubt that the charge was stated that clearly 16 months ago. Does anyone still have copies of old emails or possibly a saved copy of the html page? That would surely help in a court case against them. I am disgusted by America's obsession with litigation but this company deserves to be sued for every penny they've ripped off from unsuspecting people. As of this writing there are 480 complaints on rip off report and many more on "Complaints Board" web site. I'm out almost $200 now. They tell me they'll cancel my membership and can only refund one month. Why should I believe them? We'll see...
