I am writing concerning some major issues concerning fraud and abuse being committed by some major insurance companies against myself and probably many others like me trying to collect under disability insurance policies. I have been doing some research on the internet and as I connect the dots, it seems to be running rampant. It's probably another Enron, WorldCom rerun: execs get filthy rich and have homes all over the world, while little guy gets screwed, now it's is the SICK little guy.

I have lived and worked in Rhode Island since 1981, and as a school social worker for 10 years before becoming ill in Dec. 2000 due ongoing systemic complications (progression) of having Hep C 15+ years, as well as treatment for depression. During that time I was also diagnosed and treated for lyme disease, bladder problems, and degenerative disc disease.

l) CIGNA - This is my group long term insurance that was purchased by Middletown Schools as part of my fringe benefits package. What a joke that is. After "losing" an overnight copy of medical records (return receipts requested) I filed a duplicate application in September.

They initially denied my application for benefits, but we appealed. They didn't keep their own deadlines and have been "delaying" for months and months, I was forced to hire an attorney to file a lawsuit against them. I am now finding out that they have a great track record of not paying. Apparently they have a great track record of not paying.

Now I am in total limbo with the schools as well, at risk of losing everything that I all that I have worked for all my life.

To say it isn't fair is an understatement. These crooks should be locked up!

I would appreciate whatever you can do. Thanks.

They will deny a disability claim if they believe that they can get away with it.

I previously worked at CIGNA in their Dallas, Texas claim office. This company is very underhanded. They will deny a disability claim if they believe that they can get away with it.

They are especially quick to deny a claim of a high wage earner because it has a higher reserve associated with it.

When a claim is denied by CIGNA, I would recommend that one initially file a complaint with your state's insurance division. Also, make sure that you document all phone contact that you have with CIGNA in a follow-up letter that you send to the Representative that you spoke with. This will let them know rhat you are an astute individual and they will be less likely to try to deny your claim.
