Cingular Wireless LLC rip-off! Refused to honor the $50 rebate for purchase of Cingular Cell Phone. Young America, Minnesota
In late September 2004, I ordered a Cingular Wireless Cell phone through Bell South Telephone Company of North Carolina. They were running a Special on Cingular cell phone. In purchasing this phone, I was entitled to a $50 rebate.
Within 2-weeks of receiving my cell phone, I filled out the "Rebate Form" and mailed it to the Company. I received a letter from the company claiming that I did not meet the product proof-of-purchase. I telephone them after receiving there letter and ask them what proof-of-purchase did they need. I was told that they needed the bar code from the box the telephone came in.
I had already thrown the box away, but sent them a second letter and attached all the information that came with the cell phone and indicated that I had purchase their cell phone through Bell South of NC. They send me a second letter stating that I still did not meet the product proof-of-purchase.
There was not instruction on the Rebate Form to send the Bar Code from the box. Last week, Channel 5 News reported that they had received numberous complaints regarding the ripoff of rebates from different companies, and suggested that we contact the Federal Trade Commission.

The rebate forms all state to include the bar code, and states in bold, you must cut this out of the box photo copies will not be accepted. The directions are not that hard to follow.
As for the lady who posted the rebutal with a similar situation, it states in the instuctions on this site it is for rebutals only. From what I can determine, you either returned the phone and got a different model, in which case the full price should have been refunded at the place of purchase, or you did not sign a contract when you bought it, in which case the rebate is not valid. It requires signing a one or two year contract.

I had the same situation happen, because of the impending hurrican coming in our directions. I rushed into a Cingular store to purchase my husband a cell phone. I purchased the phone, the employee filled out the paperwork, made copies, addressed the envelope and showed me where to sign. I then also received a letter stating did not sumit the correct information. I returned to the store and the store employee contacted them. They stated to return with a photo copy of the battery we did this. I at that time decided to upgrade my phones. I am now being denied the rebate because I did not have the original Nokia in use for 30 days. Well I did Sepltember 2004 till November 2004 is well over 30 days. I called and the individual I spoke with said I should read the rebate agreement.

Please, please look at the form you filled out. I work for the Cingular rebate Company. I can guarantee you it does state to cut the entire original Proof of Purchase label from the phone box. EVERY SINGLE REBATE FORM STATES THAT. Now unless you are the only person out of millions who's does not, which i highly doubt, then you maybe did get ripped off. Each and every single rebate form for Cingular states to send the original cut from the box. The way i see it, you are just to lazy to read the instructions. Maybe you can have someone a litte brighter to read them for you.
