I called cingular to cancel my phone service on roughly 5/16/2004 after being their customers for about 4 years. However, instead of prorated my account, they require that I pay for the rest of the billing cycle even though I would no longer use the service. This to my knowledge is unfair and unethical business practice.

I have never experience this type of brute forcing a customer to pay even though they no longer use or need the service. All the customer representative has to say was that the computer automatically the canceling which is absolute B.S. The computer can be program to do anything that the company wanted it to and canceling a phone line on a certain day is not that hard a task. When I cancel phone from sBC, they never have unethical policy like that.

Even my cable provider is the same. This is bad business practice from Cingular as a whole. I tried to complaint to the customer rep but they keep on using the line "there is nothing we can do, the computer does it automatically". This leave me with little option but resorting the a third party complaint service such as BBB.

This experience has left a really sour taste on my experience with Cingular. Luckily my new phone provider does not have such shaddy practice as anyone with a little common sense can see what kind of operation Cingular is running. It will be a really really long time since I would dare recommend Cingular as a service for anyone I know.

More attention should be brought on this kind of business practice and I will do all that I can to make this issues be aware to as many source as possible.

You can file a complaint with the FCC. Their website is online.http://www.fcc.gov
They will notify the company, and you will be surprised how fast a manager from Cingular will call you to resolve the problem.
Hope this helps.
