CIRCUIT CITY and THOMPSON ELECTRONICS RIP-OFF dvd hardware offer Buy a qualifying dvd player get shafted
Circuit City offered a promotion which states if you buy a qualifying dvd player and send in the required information you will recieve 5 free dvd's and 13 free rentals. We purchased one of the qualifying dvd players from Circuit City on October 9,99. Our qualifying request was recieved by DVD Hardware Offer on October 27. When I didn't hear anything back from the company by the end of the year I sent a copy of the request with a letter requesting what I had been promised. This I sent certified and I have receipt of delivery on Jan 31,00.
March 3,I called the free dvd number 1-800-482-2288.I was informed that we had been disqualified for sending two requests. Jeff was going to talk with a supervisor and I should call back in 3 weeks to make sure it was handled. I called back March 22, the employee I recieved this time was a lady. I was told the request had been processed but the dvd's were now on back order so it would take another 3 or 4 weeks. April 19 I called and requested a supervisor. I was left waiting on hold for over an hour. Moses was my supervisor, he tells me I must have misunderstood what I was told and we are now back to the beginning. April 21,he allegedly sent back to Texas for research on why we were disqualified. Call again in 3 weeks is his response. May 1, I got to speak to another employee,Andrew, he tells me I have two options, cut my losses or talk to a supervisor. I again requested to talk to a supervisor this is May 3, I am still waiting for my return call. I have a answering machine and caller I.D.
I have proof that my request is valid. I have proof that the company recieved my request. I have proof that I paid for the dvd player. My name is on the receipt from Circuit City, paid for by credit card. The people from the free dvd offer don't want any proof,I have offered to send them anything they need. This is a clear case or false advertisement where no one is to blame and no one cares.
I doubt that I will ever get any cooperation but I want consumers to be aware of what a big hassle these promotions can cause. Don't buy a product just because you are going to get free dvd's and free rentals from Blockbuster. These promotions are exactly as good as the companies standing behind them.
CIRCUIT CITY said I would recieve 5 free dvd's and 13 free rentals when I purchased a qualifying dvd player from THOMPSON ELECTRONICS. The dvd player is a ProScan Model# PS8680Z. When I talked to Thompson Electronics they informed me they have nothing to do with the promotion and to get in touch with a local consumer agency. They are making money off of every dvd player that consumers buy because of the promotion. They have no problem with how they customers are treated.
