Circuit City Refund Dilemma or Extortion? Clearwater Florida

I purchased a (4) four Port USB Hub extension($24.99) from Circuit City, so that I could properly use the Canon all-in-one MX700($300.00-including accessories), that I purchased there as well. Upon getting the items home and attempting to install the software for the MX700, I realized that my PC was not compliant.
I returned to the store the following day and spoke with a Sales Asscociate, explained the situation and the Sales Associate suggested that I upgrade to a new PC, with a more current OS.

I agreed and purchased a new desktop, costing just over ($1000.00) One-Thousand dollars. I took the new system home and during the set up, I realized that the new system has (5) USB Ports inclusive, thereby not needing the item that I had purchased prior, the (4) Port USB Hub. I returned to the store and with the original receipt in hand, explained the situation and requested a refund for the (4) Port USb Hub, I was told I would have to wait for a "Store Manager" and did so patiently.
When some twenty minutes later, an Individual that stated that he was the "Store Manager" (However, his name badge stated otherwise), I explained once again the situation and he stated that he would not give a refund, as it was past the 14 day refund policy.

I looked both at my receipt and the Store wall, where the refund Policy is posted and explained to him, "The Store Manager", that the 14 day return Policy was inclusive with digitial cameras, camcorders, desktop PCs, notebook PCs, monitors, printers, scanners, projectors, PDAs, mobile video, GPS and radar detectors and that the item I was returning, was not any of those items, therefore holds it exempt from the 14 day return policy.

The "Store Manager" then stammered and stated that I was "Correct" , However he stated that he would only issue a "Store Credit". I explained that I was not interested in a Store Credit, that I had paid "Cash" and that is the form of payment that I was requesting from the refund. He stated that he was not willing to do that. So just to make sure that I had all the facts straight, I re-itterated the situation back to the "Store Manager" , so as to make sure that I had not mis-construed or mis-understood his response,
I said "So, you the "Store Manager" are stating that you are willing to accept the item to be returned with My original Store receipt, However, you are only willing to issue a "Store Credit", thereby mandating that I spend My Monies, that I paid in good faith and in Cash, in this store, with no other options, is that correct?"
The "Store Manager" stated "Yep, thats right!"
I asked for a Corporate number and he pointed to the wall where the "Refund Policies" are written and then he, the "Store Manager" stated "they're just gonna tell ya' what I said".

I have since written the "Contact Us", via their website and am currently awaiting a reply and in the course for such, noted in the letter to them that while I await a response, I can't help but wonder what type of Business sufferance would be felt and to what degree, if I were to hire several day laborers to picket the Business, making known to other Prospective Customer/Victims of this Business' Principalities & Ethic's and Complete Lack Thereof!

Tahnk-You All Sincerely for taking the time to read this.

The Return Policy

Hello Frank,

I have been in customer service for Circuit City for 4 and a half years now and you are absolutly right. The USB hub falls under the standard 30-day policy. Why that "store manager" is telling you that you can't have your money back is beyond me. Now if its over the 30 days or if you dont have the packaging i can see somewhat why he wouldnt. I would recomend going back there and asking to speak to the actual store director. (there is only one store director, but can be multiple managers). another option would be go to a different circuit city in the area (if there ar any) and return it there.

Hope that helps!
