Earlier this year, Circuit City broke their usual Sunday ad, which happened to fall on Earth Day. In their ad, they advertised former V.P. Al Gore's dvd, "An Undisputable Truth" as being on sale for $14 and change, and related that for every copy of the dvd sold, that C.C. would donate a copy free to an institution of learning. This offer would only be good that day. I shortly left for my area C.C. to take advantage of this deal. Upon arriving there, I found no specific area for the dvd, and when I asked several sales associates about this, I was told that the store didn't have any copies. I asked to speak to a manager, and a fellow named Juan approached me, with two other customers in tow. I informed him of my problem, and wasn't surprised to find out that the two other people were there for the same reason. He promised to go look "in the back", and left. one of the two people he brought with him left; myself and the other customer remained waiting. We talked about previous C.C. experiences (advertising cds/dvds on sale, with no product available and no rainchecks being offered), until Juan returned. He related that there was no back stock of the dvd anywhere in the store; in fact, they had only had three copies in stock prior to the Earth Day sale, and that those were MIA. He apologised, and said that he couldn't offer a raincheck because it was a sale item.

He didn't offer you a raincheck because it was on sale? Did he offer to special order one for you and have it shipped directly to your house at no charge?

That's what we usually do.

Sorry, but he sounds like a real tool. I know the manager where I used to work would have contacted the nearby Circuit City's, found you a copy, and even tried to find someone willing to go pick it up for you.
