I had bought a scanner for my wife for xmas. It worked for about 4 months and just broke. I had paid for the extended warenty so I thought everything would be fine. I returned the scanner with everything that came with it. They said they didnt need everything, just the scanner to send out and it will be back and fixed in 2 weeks. I called them in 2 weeks and they said they need the hardware for the scanner. I was very angry, now another 45 min drive there when I already took it there once. Now they say another 2 weeks before its fixed. I called 2 weeks later and they say its ready so I go again and they have a scanner for me.

I hooked it up but now my comp says no scanner found so I reinstalled the hardware, still no scanner found. So I go back to the store and they say since they already sent it out and fixed it I have to call tech support because it may be my comp. I go back home again and call tech support and they have me on the phone for an hour trying to fix it. Same thing, no scanner found. Now they want me to call another number. I called this number and they want a credit card number and its going to cost $36 for them to try and fix it over the phone. Very angry I hung up because I don't think I should have to put any more money into this scanner. I gave up for about 3 months until I decided to call Hewlett Packerd. They checked my claim number and said they never recieved a scanner for repair. I said WHAT!

He said something doesnt add up here after I told him what has happened. He then ask me if I have checked the serial number on the back of the scanner and check the reciept and they didnt match. "OMG" Circuit City gave me someone else's broken scanner to replace mine. After all this time of me raising hell, Hewlett Packered sent me a new scanner in the mail. I will never shop at Circuit City again but I'am thankfull to Hp for taking care of me.

first of all i have worked at circuit city for a long time and the serial number of a product is never on the receipt so it would be impossible for you to have checked the serial number on the scanner against the one on the receipt. nice try though. next time you make up a complaint at least know what your talking about

I have a question.. Did you read the contract? The contract with the extended warranty explicitly states that it covers failed hardware due to normal opperation of the equipment. Now that means that software is not covered.

If the problem was with the computer, and the problem is software, then replacing the scanner obviously will not help, unless it is another model, then it may. You will very seldom, and only receive free software support on anything for a very short amount of time.

Now, if Hewlett Packard has replaced the scanner, then it must have still been under their warranty. If it was under their warranty, then our contract does not take effect until the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer)warranty expires, and does not cover issues that occur prior to the end of the OEM warranty either.

Note to any consumer: Read any service contract and it's terms and conditions carefully before making any decisions. As for this warranty, it definately has it's benefits , but don't take the salesmans word for it.
