You don't need to hire an electrician to check the outlet to make sure it's wired correctly.

You can purchase a 3 wire outlet tester for under $4.

You can purchase a 3 wire, GFI tester for under $10.

However, these testers will not tell you if you have "dirty" power on the outlet that may be caused by dirty, loose, corroded wires/connections - for that, most folks need to have an electrician test the circuit.

Why not simply take the computer to them??? I know it's an inconvenience, but at least this way the computer will be repaired.

Have you had other issues with this computer before? Do you have certain lights that seem to burn out lamps faster than other lights in the house? If so, this would indicate that you might have bad fixtures or a bad connection on the circuit.
