Received an alert today, 10/15/07 from my credit card monitoring company.

The company given was CCSMC Spectrum/CBSD.

An internet search turned up that this company does credit searches for Citibank.

I called Citibank. They confirmed it. Apparently they bought "inactive" accounts from Macy's and then issued Citibank credit cards on these accounts.

They claimed that a notice was sent explaining it to every user. I explained that I get about 5 letters per week from Citibank offering me cards. I shred them and throw them away. I was told that it was my fault then as the letter they sent stated something to the effect of, "if you do not respond to this letter, an account will be opened for you". By not responding, they opened an account.

Citibank refused to investigate further since I didn't have the full account number. They wanted my SS# and I refused. They said I had to wait for the card to arrive.
