Citi cards has recently begun a new practice of signing people up for credit protection without the customers consent. According to their first advertisements about it. In order to not be charged for their fee of credit protection the consumer must write to them stating their unacceptance before they will not be charged monthly. I called after sending the letter (having recieved my bill - that had on it their credit protection fee). The good news is that i was, according to the customer, service representative credited for their fee. However, how many people will be paying these charges not having seen that they can write in or call to state non-acceptance of these fees- This seems so unfair, so i write in hopes that people will look carefully at their bills. Perhaps, i'm wrong to write here because Citi cards appeased me over the phone. But, my question is when did it become legal to sign the card holder up for credit protection without written or verbal consent of the consumer? How many people are going to be paying for what they didn't ask? Lorie Dacula, Georgia
