Complaint Review: CitiCards

CitiCards CITI Bait and Switch San Antonio, Texas

Recently I was contacted by CITI cards about a suspicious international charge on my account for $4, I was advised by the agent to change my account due to vulnerability. I specifically asked if there will be any difference with my new account as compared to my current and was assured that there will be no difference. A few days later, I have a new account letter from CITI explaining my account, to my surprise, my account benefits have been downgraded. I called up customer service immediately and they told me that my previous card was being discontinued and this new one is all they have to offer, I even escalated the issue to an Account Manager and was told the same this "Sorry, if you want the same benefits as your previous card, you will have to enroll a card with annual fee". I've been a long term customer of CITI (over 10yrs) and this is what I get for paying my bills on time and using CITI as my primary card.

Be careful, anyone that also received such a call from CITI. Make sure you go through all the information and have them send you everything in print before agreeing to any changes!

Yes.

But guess what.  This is how every credit card would work.   Your terms can be changed at any time.  If they wanted to start charging you an annual fee all they would have had to do is send you a notice.  They don't need to go through all of the "Suspicious Activity".

Now, if you didn't agree to change your card, it is very likely that insted of getting a new card with new terms, you would have just gotten a letter that says they are closing your account.
