When I opened a Sears charge card and a Sears Mastercard in Jan. of 2006, the sales person asked if I wanted account care. She told me it would pay the balance on my account in case of illness, lost job, or disability. No limitations were explained to me.

I signed up for account care on both accounts; $13/mo. on one, and $25/mo on the other.

In Jan. 2007, I became disabled and so ill I had to leave my job. My husband was paying my bills, and I did not give account care another thought, until May when I called a customer rep. and was told I was elegible. I had the forms sent to me, filled them out, had my doctor fill his part out, but that wasn't good enough. They denied me because I was only scheduled to work 6 days in 2 weeks.

I called and talked to another customer rep. and told her that I always worked double shifts and often 7 straight days, leading to almost full time. She told me to contact my employer, and if I could get this documented, and sent in, they would reopen my claim.
I contacted my employer, and they sent a printout from the home office that states I was working an average of 32.65 hours/week. I called account care with this info., and the woman told me that account care does not have my original request, and that it is well beyond the point for payment of benefits. I might just deduct the amount of money that I have paid into account care from my balance.
