Citizens Bank Not a Chance Flint, Michigan
Why are they picking on me?
We, the people, need to fight back! In one month Citizens Bank has taken $500 out of pocket in overdraft fees. Not a fighting chance to catch up, and still no remorse. It is understood who is at fault here, but it just does not seem fair. First, why would someone want to spend money that does not exist, and hurt themselves in the long run? Second, out of the $500 in fees less than $50 was actually overdrawn. Last, life is hard to get use to on your own, everything was going so well, than all was lost to Citizens Bank.
Yes! Lets overdraw the account two dollars only to pay the bank thirty-six on top of that. Does not make much sense does it? Keep your register handy... Mistakes happen everyone can vouch for that. It was two dollars, can it wait till the next direct deposit? Direct deposit, meaning no matter what, The bank will get their two dollars.
Over the two dollars spent, owing thirty-eight now, more and more overdrafts come through, one for two dollars and twenty-two cents the other for four dollars. These debits all come through right before the direct deposit goes through. Struggling, here is an option opt in or opt out. Opt in sounds good, be able to make sure the moneys in the bank twenty-four hours after overdrawing, one problem now... the debits now come through early.
Finally, in debt with the bank three hundred eighty dollars, with other bills to pay for, or lack there of. Not to sure how to get by. Twenty one years old, surprised at the world, but mostly disappointed, not what was expected. Learning, Citizens Bank does not care about the people but they do care about the peoples wealth, and they are way to willing to take it all plus some.
Not a chance! Can not close the account or make payments as soon as the direct deposit goes through the money is gone, fall more behind. People should have a choice, even if its direct deposit. That money belongs to someone, someone worked hard for that money, someone needs that money, someone is depending on that money. instead of the money going to that someone it goes to the bank all over a mistake. they call their self citizens bank think of them as the banks citizens as if they own the people, as if your money belongs to them. Now i know where I made my first mistake, that was Citizens Bank.

You kept using your debit card when your balance was -$38. Bad idea.

Leave yourself a bigger cushion, and stop making multiple small purchases

No rip off here. Bottom line is you knew the terms of your account and failed to properly manage that account.
I see that you engage in a pattern of using your debit card for multiple small transactions like $2, $5, etc.
This is a recipe for disaster, as you have found out.
Especially when you run your account right down to nothing.
Very careless, and not the bank's fault at all.
You failed to properly manage your account.
And, under the new banking regs you have the choice to opt out of autorization for negative purchases. Your $2 purchase that overdrafted you would have been declined.
My advice? Always keep a $100 cushion in your account, and keep an accurate checkbook register. Problem solved.
Oh yeah, stop making the multiple $2-$5 debit card transactions. That is just plain stupid.

It does seem like Citizens Bank, Flint, MI is embroiled with troubles. More troubles that I want piggybacked on my money.
I was involuntarily switched to Citizen's Bank when they bought Fidelity Bank. Immediately the professional banking staff I was familiar with disappeared. Now they have rather young managers with no apparent education in banking and elderly woman who didn't seem to have any prior bank experience.
I had to close out my accounts. I just couldn't trust them with my money. The failure of Citizens to recognize well trained professional staff is essential to their survival during these difficult financial times is going to be their downfall.
My sympathy to those Citizen's customers who are being mistreated.

Seriously. Stop spending money that you don't have. If you didn't do that, then you wouldn't have had to paid any money in overdraft fees. This negligence by your part. Not the banks. If you look at your bank records it was obvious that you were spending money that was not in your account to cover the cost. Take responsibility for your own actions. Quit blaming others. Grow up and fix the problem yourself. My goodness. You are an adult. Time to start acting like one.

Why are you signed up for overdraft protection on your debit card???

yes...anyone can make a mistake on the register..and yes, we need to be responsible for our mistakes...
But I must ask..why are you opted into overdraft protection on the debit card? Recent regulation changes no longer permit the banks to automatically enroll you, or force you to enroll. So, YOU had to do this by choice and physically sign up for it, or the bank is in major violation of Federal regulation.
Sad to say...you are personally responsible for the fees unless the bank is in violation.
I HIGHLY suggest you be more careful with the account register..and PLEASE for your own sake tell the bank you want to opt out of overdraft coverage on the debit card. You are getting fleeced by small transactions at $36.00 a piece. Wouldn't you prefer that the transaction was declined if the account could not cover it due to a "mistake" and avoid any subsequent fees?
