Last year, I subscribed to Classmates.com in hopes of finding some of my high school friends. I was not able to make contact with any of my class mates through this site so had no intention of renewing a subscription. To my surprise, there is a $39.00 charge pending on my credit card. I logged onto the Classmates website and found an automatic charge selection in my profile.

I changed the setting to manual and immediately emailed Classmates.com. The rsponse was basically that every person who gets the gold membership is automatically set up on auto charging and that I should have read the fine print better. I believe this to be a dishonest practice and subscribers should always have to make a selection for what type of renewal options they want.

Reputable companies would never decline to credit an account if the customer did not wish to renew. This charging practice makes all the difference to consumers - one that will not be forgotten espcially now with the economy doing so poorly. I contacted my credit card company but since the charge has not processed yet - I have to call back.
