Clayton Automotive Group Tried to sell me a previously wrecked truck as "clean title and clean Carfax" with no prior damage. Lebanon Tennessee
Told me vehicle was in excellent condition and never damaged. From ad - "This Tacoma is a carfax certified 2 owner vehcile with no prior accident history." When I looked at it in person it was obvious (because I have years of working on cars experience) that this truck had been in a MAJOR front end collission requiring a new front bumper, significant body repair on the passenger side, new headlights and new engine compartment parts. They had also painted a bedliner type textured coating on the underside to possibly coverup having bent major parts and skid plates back into shape.
When I told the salesman that he was clearly attempting to sell a previously wrecked truck as one without any prior damage he tried to give me a scam answer that he had no way of knowing that since Carfax only reports if a body shop or insurance company reports it to them. He didn't offer to show me the actual report. Interestingly, theres a big collision repair facility right next door to these crooks, so it wouldn't surprise me if they had done the work there. The other thing I cought him in was that the pin striping was BRAND NEW (so new that a small peice of the trim cutting was still stuck to the front lip!
He admitted they had done that but still insisted he didn't know about all of the other obvious wreck damage (like a gouge in the pax door tha revealed extensive Bondo body filler where it rubbed against the mangled body and frame screw on the front quarter panel). I asked if he was willing to lower the price since I had just proven the truck was not as advertised and he claimed to have no knowedge prior to my pointing it out. Of course he said no. I guess he's just going to wait for some sucker that won't realize they're being ripped off!!!
