Due to job relocation and not being able to pay rent and a mortgage payment on an empty house we had to let our home go back. On april 12, 2005 Clayton Homes of Harriman went to the home to verify it was vacant. Before they made it back to move the home to storage, the double wide with no axles or wheels was gone. The lot owner probably knows where it is, but the police detectives have not found it yet.

The last we heard after turning it in to Clayton, was that it was to be sold at auction and we would be responsible for the remaining amount. Months went by without a word, then the police detective calls and asks if I had any idea where the home was(Clayton never called until August 2006). Now, Vanderbilt is demanding payment in full of over $36,000!

Shouldn't Clayton be responsible, since they verified the home was vacant and did not secure their property immediately (after all, someone had time to dig the trailer tongues out of the ground, put axles and wheels on it and move it).

I can understand if the home went to auction and we had to pay the remainder, but who knows where it is, or what condition it is in. We paid insurance on it, I'm sure Clayton or Vanderbilt has insurance on it, but they say insurance wo'nt cover it. I say they're rip off artists.
