Karls Mundaray, owner of the company, was a close friend to us for two years. He abondaned his work at our lounge located in Sunnyside Queens. He still have our $5,500, and refused to pay back. He is a licensed contractor and dishonest. Please dont give him any money upfront and dont trust him without a valid written agreement. He broke his friendship for $5,500.

My name is Karls Mundaray, owner of Clever Interiors Inc. I was a next door neighbor to this person for about two years at a place in Sunnyside. Not a close friend.
Harum's wife Aisha used to be my wife's friend. One day she called me to ask for help in their project of opening a lounge called Nargilem. They were thinking of hiring a contractor that promised about million things for a low amount of money.
I told them to look for his record and license, and imagine what happen. Well, they asked me to give them a real estimate for the same project, and it came out about twice the price. Because of a friendship I decided to give them a price for the important things that they needed to pass inspections and open the place until they could get more money.
We started the work with a deposit like always but we did not sign a contract that day (beginning of my nightmare). I have had spoken with Harum by phone and had asked if everything was fine with the new estimate, and he said: "perfect - can you start tomorrow?”. With this in my mind and a deposit we started the work.
After a couple of days we found out that the store they rented had a STOP WORK ORDER from the building department. They talk to the owner and he said that he was going to take care of the problem. A week later, still the STOP on file and we cannot get any plumbing or electrical permit. I talked to Harum about our delays and he asked me for something impossible that the owner of the store had suggested.
In NYC you cannot cut corners, if the STOP is still on file we just can't work. Also he will never be able to open the lounge. This was the biggest issue of the project, and he decided to believe the owner of the store.

After all this complications, Harum started asking why other things are not done, and i did not understand what he was talking about. I asked him if he remember the estimate ( second part of my nightmare), he said: “I have never seen any estimate; I thought you were including everything like the other contractor".
Because we could not get into an agreement, and I was not going to be pushed to do anything that was not in my estimate, also not legal in NYC; we had to stop the work.
Harum received a check from Clever Interiors Inc. for $2,500 plus $3000 in appliances, $500 in electrical work and 50% of the work done. But some people think that they are always right, for that reason he had tried to ruin our reputation, knowing that legally he has nothing to gain.
